The General is an out and out newspaper man—brimfull of spirit and originality and makes the Democrat one of the liveliest papers in the State. Gen. A stranger inquired of me, what tall literary looking person that was, with a standing collar od ? I informed him that it was the editor of the Democratic I imes. • A large number of our citizens are absent, rusticating in the mountains. Flour is now worth §2 50 per band- red in this market; beef 8 cents. Twenty-two persons happened into a private residence and took dinner, last Sunday. What a wind fall that would have been for a restaurant. A large concourse of people attended the funeral of Mrs. Jacob Isb, yester day. Rev. Mr. Bell} preached a very solemn and impressive sermon. The Patrons of Husbandry in regalia per formed the last sad rites at the grave. The condolence and [sympathy of the entire community are offered to the be reaved family. Gen. Ross has recovered from his illness and now looks as hale as ever. T iieobold . ---------- •——------------- - LINKVILLE ITEMS. L inkville , July 30, 1877. Al. Woodruff paid us a visit, with two nice ladies, on Sunday. The only fault we could find was Al’s outfit. We should call it a go cart, but he says he will have a nice buggy for ladies, after this. H. M. Thatcher left us last week and has not returned yet. Could the edi tor of the T idings give us any inform ation as to his whereabouts, as bis part ner is too much engaged in waiting on the fair sex, since he became a store man. S. Worden and G.
