i MlCKIE, THE PRINTER'S DEVIL LINCOLN COUNTY LEADER, TOLEDO, OREGON, THURSDAY. JUNE 15th, 1922. PACE FIVE By Charles Cugfiroe 0e Sherlock Mickief r Olson & Miller Wrestle 2 Hours Saturday Night Large Crowd Witness Mat Match ; Miller Aggressor in First Hour While Olson Has Better Condition. Wes''ln? fans of this section turn ed cut In rrrenKth to witness the MII-ler-Olson watch hole In the Mr build ing here last Saturday night find, al though, Olson seemed to be in much better condition than Milleri. never theless he wps unable to get a fall from the gritty "Smiling" Chtrlie. Miller was the aggressor in the first hour and worked hard to gain a hold that would produce a fall. Olson however seemed to have strength to spare whenever It was nesdedt o break whatever hold that Miller clamped on. TImo nfter time he seemed to deliberately allow Miller to clamp on a headlock, but on each Instance the Swede would pull hin self free, feel to see if his ei-rs were still there r.nd allow Miller to have tnt hold again. It was a disappointment to many of Olson's admirers '.lr'.t he did not show more Bpeed and pin Miller to the nut, but. Although Miller weak ened In the last half hour, neverthe less he Earned to be the Swede'B equal on all occasions. Miller was not in the condition to withstard tho awful pmiishment that two hours' wrestling requires and collapsed In his corner Imuediately after the match was over, while Ol son seemed to bo as fresh as when he started. "He is the slowest and strongest man I ever met,' stated Miller after the match. "If I had some way of getting Into proper condition I am sure I could handle him, but farming and wrestling don't go well together, especially when you have as tough a man as Olson to meet." Young Charlie Miiler and another Toledo boy somewhat smaller pave a splendid exhibition of wrestl'ng as a preliminary to the main event. Miller got the first fall but the little fellow came back and showed real aggres siveness In the last two rounds and the match was called a draw. Two referees were in the ring dur ing the Miller-Olson match and their decisions seemed to please the fans. The were Mr. Thomas and Ed. An derson of Salem. Olson vs. Dickson Mutch Troves an Am using Affair Chas. Olson (The Tsrrible Swede) of Albany, won from Hobart Dlckeon Tuesday night in the second round of a mixed wresUinz and fighting bout at tho fair buUJiner before a small crowd that gathered to witness the affair. In the first round Dickson was able to stay clear of the Swede's attempts to get hold of him r.nd in the mean time was able to deliver telling blows to the Swede's Jaw that came near putting him to the mat. Olie, how ever, would shake his head and keep coming for more. Several times Dick son was compelled to dive through the ropes to keep the Swede from I getting hold of him. Olson seemed more all-in at the end of the two-mln-l ute first round than !ie .'did (after 1 two-hours of wrestling In his former match. In the second round Dickson seemed to have more confidence and held more to the center of the ring thus giving Olson the advantage to gain a hold. After 42 seconds the Swede managed to get a hold and downed Dickson, ending the match. After the match Olson stated: 'This is a new game for me and I can truth fully say that It Is my last match of this kind. That boy Dickson cer tainly has some nunch. I do not care to stop any more like the ones I did with my juw tonight." Two boxing preliminaries between Oscar Hoover and Wade and Allen and Swayze furnished milch excite ment as tho boys fousht like demons. OLSON VS. PATTERSON Owing to the fact that he had crit icizing Lieut Patterson considerably on his decisions in his first match with Chas. Miller, Chas. Olson (The Terrible Swede) before leaving town Tuesday, bunted up Mr. Patterson, and apologized stating that he did not wish to leave any ill-feelings be hind. He also, stated that he hoped the fans of Toledo did not fee', harsh ly towards him and that he hoped some time In the future and renew acquaintances. Mr. Olson left for Albany Wednes day. We have a report of the Grange meeting all set up in type but are compelled to leave it out through lack of space. Wald port Takes Toledo Team to Cleaniug Sunday High Dive by Toledo Player Creates Amusement for Fans in First Inning; Score 9 to 6. The Toledo baseball team journed to Waldport Sunday and received a beating by the boys of that village by a score of 9 to 6. Three pitchers were used by the Toledo team in an eiiurt to curb their heavy-hitting op peneats. McMillan soemed to lack control and didn't have his usual "stuif" on the apple and retired in favor of Service In the third inning. Bain, catching for Toledo, was hit by the ball in tho fifth inning and re tired from behind the bat to the snort stop position. Service -donned the uiuslt and Taylor, a new find for the iocal boys, stepped into the pitcher's ujx. He was a little wild but had it not been for an error and a walk the scoring would havg been over for Waldport after nt ..ok the mound. In the eighth inning ..he Waldporters went down cne-two-three, Taylor only throwing t.-ica ball3. Coleman, pitching for Waldport, had his old-time form and, as usual, caus ed many of tho Toieio agjrogation to fan the air and retr.-e. He struck out 15 men in Sundays same. It was in the first n s that the fans were treated td a ihiill that it, very rare especially at ;i. bu.. . , more appropriate for a side-slicw at the circus. The first man to w.. ... Waldport landed squarely on the i pie and sent it whizzing over the sec ond baseman. Tol thought he cculd get it and made an awful effoii, to do so. He made a beautiful run and was reaching out to spear the "apple" as it made its way to earth, when, lo and behold, a ditch some 16 feet wide and with some 4 feet of water prevented further progress and the ambitious playsr maJe one of the prettiest nose dives that can be im agined. Wiien lie came up the ball was floating by his side and he grace fully heaved it to the Infield. Tol swears his baseball uniform will be a bathing suit from now oil. The box score follows: Score by innings: Waldport Ill 402 OOx 9 Toledo -. 130 010 1006 Waldport. AB. R. H. PO.
