Leader: ' I notice In the last copy of the Ya- quina Bay News an article by Jos, Patterson in which he mentions the status of the timber and other prop erty in Lincoln Co., recently the prop erty of the U. S. and now sold to others on contract. In this regard I talked this year with Maj. H. U. Welch now County Assessor of Mult nomah Co., and he stated that he was confronted this year with the same proposition as the -Government had sold property in Multnomah Co. to private parties on contract and the buyers had endeavored to escape the tax. After consuttlng his own attorneys and the attorneys of the State Tax Commission he found that the prop erty was assessable to the buyers, and offered to turn his information over to the Assessor of this County if it .would be of any help.
