SHOW AND ROAD MEETING HELD AT SILETZ Wednesday evening all roads led to Siletz and as a result ninny people from Newport and Toledo found their way to the metropolis of the beautiful Siletz valley where a good roads meet ing was to be held. The Siletz Com munity Club staged a minstrel show that evening for the benefit of the Near East Relief. The show was ood and the performance was con cluded with a solo beautifully ren dered by Miss Larson. After the show a good roads meet ing was held. Supt. E. L. Chalcraft acted as chairman, and introduced Lieut. Patterson of Toledo, General McAlexander of World War fame, and W. B. Dennis of Carlton as the speakers of the evening. Lack of space prevents going Into detail, but ntedkss to say, a most enthusiastic meeting was held, and we believe much good will come of same. THE REAL GOOD ROADS SPIRIT From all ever the county come re ports of individuals and communities volunteering work in puttnig roaJs in better shape for travel this year. The Olalla people turned out. in force slashed the brush and f:lled the mu(i holes on the road through their com munity. At Chitwood the other day, I. J. Pepin put in a culvert and fillet' up the mud holes there. At Ed'ty viITe, tho farmers there donated lim or money and put the tractor on: grader .into commission, smoothing the roads from the Benton County line to Chitwood. Similar Instances are reported from other parts of Hie county. Let the good work go on. On Tuesday evening occurs the Near Bast Relief program and community assembly at the Government School House. This Is being arranged by committees of the Community Club and of the Grange, and It is expected that every one finding it possible will be present. On Friday, Juno 3, the High School Commencement exercises will be held and we were" fortunate in securing of O. A. C, Professor I'age, to be with us on that evening. On Friday evening, May 20th the High School presented their play, "The Coach," at the Government School House. Tho examination of applicants for marriage-licences has, heretofore, been only an indignity. The proposed bill asks us to support a program of mutilation.
