R. H. Kaltz the piano tuner is In
town for a few days. Orders for
tuning should be left at this office at
once as he will be here but a few
days.
Mrs. Lena Jones returned to her
homo at Newport Sunday evening af
ter a short visit here. Site was ac
companied on her return by her sis
iter, Miss Essie Ball.
Mrs. D. J. Sidey entertained the
Ladies Whist Club at her home Wed
nesday afternoon. Mrs. Ira Wade
captured the first prize and Mrs. G.
B. McCluskey the consolation prize.
Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Ras3mussen and
son, accompanied by Mrs. C. Zevely,
drove down from Portland Sunday for
a visit at Yaqulna, Newport and To

came In Monday evening to visit old
friends and relatives, his wife, Mrs.

weeks ago and has been visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Gilder
sleeve. 'Mrs. James. Spense and children of
Carlton, and MJrs. George Spense of
Corvallis canie in on Sunday evening's
train to visit at the Jno. Peterson home
in this city. Mrs. Jas. Spense is Mrs.
Peterson's sister and Mrs. Geo. Spense
her mother.
Miss Helga Larson was a passenger
for Alb.iny Tuesday noon to visit her

and son, who will also visit at the

Sale of Indian Lands
The following list of Indian landB located on the Siletz and Grande
Ronde Indian Reservations and in Southern Oregon are offered for sale under
existing laws. SEALED BIDS for the same will be received until 2 o'clock P. M.
on Oct. 7, 1920, when the bids will be opened for consideration. All bids shall be
enclosed in a sealed envelope, which must be conspicuously marked BID
FOR INDJAN LANDS." The DATE of the proposed sale must also be
placed thereon, but nothing else. No bidder will be permitted to include
more than one allotment in any one bid. Should a prospective purchaser
desire 'o purchase more than one. allotment he should submit a separate
bid for each, and if lie desires to purchase less than an entire allotment,
he may submit a bid for one or more legal sub-dlvlslons thereof and such
bid wiil be crnsldered in connection with the appraised valuo of each such
legal subdivision. No bid for less than the appraised value will be consid
ered. The tight to reject any or all bids Is reserved by the Commissioner
of Indian Aftairs.
Eac?i bid must be accompanied by duly rertiflcd check, certificate of
deposit or cashier's check on some solvent bank, payable to the order of
Edwin L. Chalcraft, Superintendent, for ten per cent (10) of each bid,
as a guarantee for the faithful performance by the bidder of his proposals.
Cash in lieu of check will not be accepted and will cause bid to be rejected.
If the bid enall be accepted, and the bidder shall within thirty days after
due notice of the acceptance of his bid fall to comply with the terms of
his bid bv making final payment, the money represented by such check
shall be forfeited to the ue of the owner of the land. The checks of all
unsuccessful bidders will be returned to them within ten days after the
opening of bids.
The successful bidder when his bid Is accepted, will be called upon to
pay the sum of $20. In addition to Ills bid for the land; and also his portion of
the expense for advertising the land. The receipt of a bid will be considered
evidence that the bidder accepts tills requirement. The cost for advertising
will be kept to the minimum.
The patent Issued to purchasers will contain a provision to the effect
that there is reserved from the lunds granted a right of way for ditches
and canals constructed under authority of the United States.
Deferred payments at six per cent interest, on
sales exceeding $1000, can generally be arranged,
provided a payment of not less than twenty-live per cent of the purchase
price is made when the bid Is accepted. The bidder should mention the
allotment number, name of allottee, give the description of the land covered
by his bid, and the character of payments intended. For further informa
tion apply to the undersigned.
