The Physics class took a test last Friday. All in the class were satisfied with their grades. Joseph Dowd was absent from school last week. All the people reported having a fine time last Sunday. Eggs seemed to be so plentiful on that day. Mr. Chubb is absent from school to day, which is a great sorrow for T. Chubb. Happy and Bean are very happy lately. I wonder why? . iMr. Raymond Sterling Is very proud of his new name, and he shows it too, by manners and looks. A surprising act took place Tues day afternoon, when all the continents fell, America, too, oh! ! (It was only the maps.) The geometry class 'took an exami nation this morning. They are all anxiously waiting for results of the test. The question, "What is Light," waa asked this morning, but no one was able to answer it. Who knows what light really is? STATE ROAD BEING INSPECTED Salem, Or., April fr-i(Special) Herbert Nunn, state highway engi neer, is taking a trip of inspection over the new state road between Clo verdale, Tillamook county, and Tole do, Lincoln County. Many thousands of dollars are being expended in the improvement of this highway, which will open up a vast area of productive farm and grazing lands along the coats. Oregouiun. DAY SERVICE SOON Supt. George Blanchard of the Ya qulna Electric Co., was up from New port last Saturday. Mr. Blanchard Jnformed us that he has a crew of men repairing the line between here and the Report City and If the rain would let up they would soon have this line in shape. Then there Is Boine work to be done on the lines at Newport and also at Toledo after which day service will again be resumed. Two power lines are to be strung here at Toledo, one to the Chesley mill and one to the Robert's mill, both of whom expect to use motors to operate their planers. "THE PRIVATE SECRETARY" The Toledo High School will pro duce "The Private Secretary," a three act comedy, in the Liberty Thealrfc next Thursday evening, April 15, at 8 o'clock. This Is a humorous pro duction, featuring a cast of seasoned entertainers and If you want some good laughs, don't fail to come. The proceeds will be used for the publication of the H. S. Annual, "Blun and Gold." Admission, 60 cents and 5 cents. FRIDAY, APRIL 9th, 1920 SERVICE-CARSON R. N. Service of Portland and Miss Ada Carson of this city were united in marriage at Portland the first of the week. This wedding is th o culmination of a romance begun at Chemawa, when the principals were students of that Institution. Mr. Ser vice Is a veteran of the late World War, having served with Uncle Sam's forces In France' Miss Carson Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Carson of this city. She was educated in the Toledo schools and at Chemawa. Mr. and Mrs. Service will make their home in Portland. YOU ARE ELECTED; EVERYBODY COME The ladles of the Civic Club are arranging for a big party and dance at the I. O. O. F. Hall tomorrow even ing, and everyone In Toledo is expect ed to be there. Card games will.be played In the lodge room, a dance will be given down stairs, the Toledo Or chestra donating their services gratis, and a big supper will be served in the banquet room. Card players will be charged an admittance fee of 25c and the dancers will be charged 75c. Sup per will be served cefateria style. The money will be used by the Civic Club In the fitting up of a Rest-room, something that has long been needed. Come out and aid a worthy cause, and Incidentally have a good time yourself. If you are not there on time the city marshal will call for you and escort you to the hall. Better come without the Marshal's ucsistance because you might be fined heavily for contempt of court. LOGS ALL LOADED W. H. Lawson finished his contract just Monday, having loc.ded all "the government spruce logs that wero put in the water from thn Wessell tract I and from the Yaqulna Northern R. U., a tolal or uhout twelve and n half million feet. It took about four months to load the logs, owing to delays In socurlng cars. An average of twenty curs or more per day was maintained when cars were available. FOURTH CLASS POST- MASTER EXAMINATION The United Slates Civil Service Commission has announced an examin ation to be held at Newport, Or., on April 24th, 1020, as a result of which it is expected to make certification to (111 a contemplated vacancy In the posi tion of fourth-clans postmaster at Tidewater, Or. EXTENTION SCHOOL A SUCCESS The extension school hold In this city yesterday under the arrangement of the Farm Bureau was very success ful In spite of a rainy day. . A large number of farmers and townspeople attended and listened to the lectures delivered by Professors Carpenter and Fitts, of O. A. C. and witnessed the demonstrations given In home econ omics by Miss Lane, also of O. A. C. All did ample justice to tlie big dinner served at noon, each doing their own demonstrating. Last evening Dr. Wheeler of the Salvation Army, delivered a touching lecture at the Movie theatre, and Prof. Fitts gave an Illustrated lecture. Several reels of film were shown and in all the audience spent an enjoyable and instructive evening. The next school will be held at Waldport tomorrow. ITEMS TAKEN FROM COR;. Sunday Schools In the county are to have delegates at this convention, and a good program has been arranged.
