P. ficGEE j UNITED STATES MARINES I (From Frank Wada) I France, June, 1913 Uenr Feins : I Well we hav move and Lav .quarters here. The people treat us fine, even give over pari oi' their hous:s to us. Lots of tI?o houses, the owners live down and with no trouble at all. des day morning some of tfce men had s'as drill, down in a hollow on the fair grounds. Fhst we saw the yellow gas cloud but this soon rolled down the incline into the depression and thinned out until it couldn't be seen, but of course it was still ,tJicie and strong enough to do damage it' no protection was had. I didn't see it when it was first turned loose, but just as it was rolling down into the pit then the men donned their masks and had made another stretcher drill in the hollow and much better stimulated relief work. They had six stretchers and men to carry them, and a man in each stretcher to make it more real. The gas drill always draws quite a crowd of civilians v. ho stairs and sive over the upstairs to the Marines.
