NUMBER 7 SILETZ ' The pupils of the Toledo High School gave a vaudeville entertainment at the Oovernment School building Setur- day evening to a full house. The com- munlty was well represented at the play, while Lieutenant Porter with the soldiers was present also to enjoy the entertainment and to encourage the young people who had come so far ; over muddy roads to put the play on. The program was short but well ren-1 dered showing that each erformer had special training in the part he was to take. The costumes of the per forators were elegant and oriental. Where all did so well It would be in vidious to make comparisons. "V (Conjtaned on Last page) SUIT FILED TO SECURE DEED The Tliorsen-Hendrlcksen Lumber Co through its attorneys, has filed suit agalnBt Fred Wessel in an attempt to force him to give them a deed to his timber, on which he gave them an option in December, at the purchase price of $20, 00. The lumber company has spent about $5000 in surveys and the building of a railroad to the tract, and now Mr. Wessel refuses to sell. The lumber company Is represented by attorneys Nash & Graham of Port land, and Hawkins & McCluskey. of this place. LIBERTY LOAN DRIVE OPENS TOMORROW The third liberty loan drive opens tomorrow and those ln charge of the drive ln this county are going to try and raise the entire amoant needed in the one day, hoping to make Lin coln the banner county of the state. COUNTY OUT OF DEBT In this issue we have the call of County Treasurer, Ira Wade, calling all warrants outstanding and unpaid. This means that Lincoln County is out of debt, for perhaps the first time ln its history keep it there. The next thing Is to That the county paid off Its large debt so quickly, after the six per cent limitation went Into et- feet, 1. due to a large extent to the -able management anckbusines ability of the County Court A year ago we had a debt of about $70,000, while to - day we are on a cash basis. This will be a great load off the taxpayers' shoulders. -W S S- CHESLEY LUMBER CO. LETS LOGGING CONTRACT The Chesley Lumber Company this week entered into contract with J. A. Peterson, whereby the latter will log forty acre tract of timber on Mill Creek, that Is owned by the company. It is estimated that there is about a million feet of timber In the tract. J. C. Altree and crew is logging the Margson timber for this company and It is thought the mill will be sawing by the first of Mby. The mill machinery is expected ln the first of next week, and It will be installed at once. Mr. Chesley and crew are making rapid headway with the repairs to the building. -W-88- ASK NEW BIDS On account of the Increase In weight of packages that can be sent by par cels post under the new regulations, many of the star mail routes are be ing re-advertiaed for bids for carrying the mail for the next four years. They expect a car of hay and a car of feed this evening on the freight, and will have about a dozen teams here within a few days. These 'teams will be used in freighting and building railroad.
