Black place which he had bargained for before Mr. Mack's" death. Messrs. Cator and Hathaway took a dressed beef to Corval lis recently which they readily disposed of. - Helen Shelten Is staying with Mrs. Smith Allison and attend ing school. Clifford McDonald went to Blodgett for a load of supplies. Frank Davis took Mr. and Mrs. Mortie Lake, Charley Llnd ley and Gail Shane to Toledo last Tuesday where Mr. and Mrs. LaUe - transferred their property on Flegles Creek, known asS the Dart in? home stead. to Messrs. Lindley and Shane. Jack Thompson and Victor Plunkett of Blodgett were Har lan visitors Vednesday. Main Liriggs is home from the Marys river logging camp where he has been working, t Rby Wakeman had the mis fortune to Injure his leg while working at the Marys river camp and had to be taken to the hospital. Mr. Miller of Albany came In and bought some apples of H. F. Brlggs. Mr. Miller was here attending Pomona Grange and found Big Elk could raise apples. Take note Brother Loudon, the results of starting a Grange. Gall Shane and his dogs chased a bear all one day last Week but failed to capture It. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Davis, ac companied by Sam Grant and Mr. Black went to Philomath last Thursday, expecting to re turn that day but Mr. Davis had the misfortune to break his auto Just after leaving Philomath on his return trip so had to return to town and get repairs from Al bany and did not reach home un til the following night. A Bocial dance was given at the home of Messrs. Brooks and Martin of Sweet Home, Satur day evening. The potato' digging and apple picking are about all done and people are prepared for the win ter weather. Dr. Boynton of Little Elk is spending . some time at Harlan doing dentistry for those in need Of such work. Elton Brown of Corvallis took out a bunch of cattle this week purchased of M. D. Bianderberry and other parties. Mr. Garrison has returned from Idaho where he has been for some time working in the mines. BAYViEW E. S. Oakland went to Port land for medical treatment last week. The last report from him he was getting Letter.. Miss Lillic Simonson and her mother, Mrs. Simonson went to Toledo Tuesday this week. P. E. Sheppard came home from Canada last week, expect ing to return in the spring. Percy Twoiulily came home from North llciul this week for a short visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burt Twoinbly. Dr. Linton the Waldnort drue. gist passed through Tuesday evening enroute home from a trip to the Valley. Dudley Trapp, road supervis or in the Chitwood district, was in the city Wednesday meeting with the County Court. J. L. Goodell was over from the Agency Wednesday. Mr. Goodell is in charee of the Haw kins sawmill at the Agency. Miss Cora Hanson returned to the Valley on Sunday evening's excursion, after spending several weeKs visiting nome folks down the bay. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Miller, re cently of Monroe, have moved to Toledo, and are occupying the former dental office along side the city hall. Mrs. Esther Andersen has hint completed the school census for tne loiedo district, and reports that there are 203 of school age in the district. . Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Anderson returned last evening from Port land. Norm has been in Canada the past Summer and Mrs. An- aerson met him in Portland. L. C. Mowery. road sunervisor in the Lower Siletz district, had business with the Court here this week. Mr. Mowery informs us that the new cut-off below the OJalla bridge is now com pleted and open for travel. J. O. McClellan of Fairbanks Alaska, arrived Monday evening to visit his sister, Mrs. Lee Wright and family. Their mother who has been here for some time, returned Wednesday morning witn ner son, Mr. Mc Clellan. Engineer Claude Wright ar rived down from Portland lasi Friday evening and has been busy this week getting things ready to advertise for bids for the construction of the South Jetty. Bids for this work will be opened on January 2d, 1918. Wm. Llnderman and son, Carl, departed for Los Angeles. Calif., yesterday morning. I He took a sample of Burbank i potatoes grown by Ivan Kynls- ton. which he said were the big gest he had ever seen. Ivan Kynlaton brought us In a fine sample of Unrbatik potatoes this week for display in our of fice. The potatoes were grown on his place north of Toledo and the bunch he brought us range from 9 to 15 inches In length, be ing nice smooth tubers. "Can you beat that, and during a dry season at that. We gave some to Chas. Davis to take back and show his Kansas friends. W. B. Hayden and son, Max, who live on Mill Four, started for town Tuesday morning with their launch. In the boat they had several sacks of apples, five Jugs of cider, and a kitchen range. In shifting their nosl- jtions in the boat the range acci dentally toppled over, and it In i turn toppled the boat over, spill ing mem out in tne water.
