Into the pupils is being drilled the lessons of life, of better citizen ship, making them better qual ified to take their position at the head of affairs in the communi ty, to make it more prosperous as they take up the reins of business and government. If we realized that the future of the town i3 in the hands of the teachers and the boys and girls going to school, probably we would take a greater interest in their progress. Let's make up our minds that during the coming term we will not lose an opportunity to en courage the boys and girls and their tecahers and show them how we appreciate the import ance of their work. REGARDING ROAD BONDS The County Court has set Tuesday, October 2d, as the date for the election to vote upou the proposed road bond issue. Now tho Leader has always stood for the upbuilding of Lincoln County and good roads are one of tne biggest factors toward the up building of any county or com munity. There is one part of the present plan, that we noticed in particular, that is likely to de feat the good roads project as a whole. The season of perishable fruits and vegetables is upon us. The value of the thousands of war gardens planted in responce to the President's' appeal will depend upon the effort made to preserve their products now. Let every housewife be a sol dier in the food army. Can and dry everything not required for immediate use. Let nothing go to waste. Foods preserved for home use will release other sup .plies for our soldiers at the front and there will undoubtedly be high prices and scarcity of many articles next winter. Those who provide for the future now will have little to worry about then. The good roads plan as outlined in the pe titions does not propose to im prove this road leading from Toledo south through the fertile Beaver Creek country to Bay View and Lutgens, but proposes to build a new road along the ocean bluff, where there are no farms. The rest of the roads outlined In the petitions will ben efit our farmers as well as tour ists and will prove a double asset to the county. In SDeakine of the labor situa tion, Pres.
