Maude Porter went to the home of Mrs. Howard last Saturday and on ac count of the stormy weather she was unable to return until Monday. Mrs. McGuIre entertained a few people at her home Wednesday even ing. The fortunate guests were Por ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Isaacson, Mr. and Mrs. Schmltt and J. H. Bohle. After the refreshments were served a very large crowd attending as usual, Everyone enjoyed themselves and are hoping for another one soon. Miss Esther Bent ley of Newport vis ited at the King home Saturday. Burl King did also. Mrs. George Lewis and children and Miss Christine Peterson called at the Boone home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Tea Huntsucker was visiting with relaUves the former part of the week. Peter Peterson and Eugene Emer son made a flying trip to Newport Saturday. Miss Goldrlch of Portland is visiting with her sister, Mrs. George Campbell this week. MIbs Christine TetPrson and John nie Emerson and Lloyd Lewis, called at the Hiiore home Sundiiy afternoon. We were glad to see that they were Interested In the Christ ian work and hope they will continue itheir good work. Rev. Searles held services after Sunday School a week ago Sunday. Maude Porter in on the sick list at present and is unable to give full at tendance to school this week. We hope she will recover soon, as she is regular in attendance. Mrs. K. It Is Just like meeting an old friend who can tell you all the latest news about Toledo. I see that the discussion about the county agent has died out, also that "Milky Micky" has not returned. I have been so miBy that ' I have neglected to acknowledge receiving the paper. I did not mean to do so, but I find that my time Is rather scarce. It has rained today for the first time to speak of since my arrival. For nearly a week wo had' severe dust storms, the dust at times being so thick that a person could only see about half a mile. The wind was so strong that the electric lights were out of commission for a time. The power here is produced by water from Henry Splndel Friday. Chester Ward of Cresent Ridge was at Southwell's Saturday. from town. This Is a great country for automo biles and horses. Cox made visit over Friday The school in town is very fine, hav ing the name of being one of the best' In the state for the size of the town. The pupils have organized a club to grow gardens and livestock, and have rented fourteen acres of ground for that purpose. There have been quite a few mad coyotes killed around here and alt dogs muBt be muzzled, for protection against rabies. The grass Is now growing and a soon as the ground dries out enough. Miss Corinne Pennington arrived home from Monmouth Wednesday evening for a short vacation. Wlllard Carson arrived over from Corvallls Friday, evening for a few days visit. He returned Monday. Geo. Rowin of Waldport was in the city Tuesday transacting business as administrator in the Lucy Rowin es tate. Mrs. Jacobs of Harlan was visiting with Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Miller in this city last week, returning home Satur day morning. Ex-County Judge John Fogarty was up from Newport Wednesday, paying his taxes and transacting other busi ness at the courthouse. He found for the plaintiffs In both instances. The latter . has been appealed. Yesterday was the last day of grace. Mrs. L. O. Getscalag and children of Detroit. Mich., arrived In the city Tuesday evening for a visit at the Peter Berg home on Olalla.
