A modern lumber schooner carrying a million feet can pass over the bar in safety. I am sure if the mills and logging roads were put in and business started It would be no trouble to get the appropriations. J. M Bowers made a trip to Poole Slough Tuesday. CHITWOOD Prosser Prudholm has rented his ranch to James Slyh and has departed for Portland a few days ago. James Slyh and fam ily moved to the place Saturday. Duadley Henry Is building him a new barn on his ranch. H. M. Henry is helping him. W. H. Price's house caught fire Monday evening but with the help of one of his neighbors the fire was put out before much damage was done. Robert Mann left for Toledo Saturday evening. R. R. Wilson and family have moved from their ranch to "Nestledown Farm" where they expect to reside during this com ing summer. John Jacobson had the mis fortune to loose a cow a few days ago. Prof. R. E. Wood of Orton was here Saturday and informed us that he was the father of a new boy born a few days ago. Mrs. Laura Schley returned from a trip to Portland Tues day. Shermer and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Hall and children spent aunaay at tne Barker ranch. REVIVAL MEETINGS STILL GOING ON AT THE M. E. Copeland Bros, hnve gotten out 100 piles for the Government work on the Jetty. The piles are 50 feet long and free from knots. J. F. Stewart returned from Nebraska last Tuesday evening. He was accompanied by his brother, M. N. Stewart, who will cast his fortunes with the old Webfoot State for a time. Tlllotson Bros, lost about 30 head of sheep during the high tides of last last Saturday. They were on the tldeland and the water raised up over the dikes. AND THEN WHAT? INDEPENDENCE WILL PLAY HIGH SCHOOL One week from tonight, Fri day, January 26th, the Indepen dence basket ball team will be here for a game with the local team. The following Friday evening, February 2, the Toledo team expects to play at Inde pendence, and will return home and play Waldport here on Sat urday the 3d. The week follow ing they expect to go to Newport for a game with the Newporters on their home floor. This is a hard schedule and will make the locals go some to fill it and win their share of games. We believe our bovs will give a better account of them selves Saturday evening than they did at Waldport last week, as at Waldport they played on a Slick floor, and were nnnhln to stand up. Newport has a good fast team though, and will give the boys a run for their money. A good fast nrellminnrv game will be played between the secona teams. Game starts at eight o'clock. Admission 25c. WALDPORT WINS BOTH GAMES The Waldport High School teams walked off with both games last Saturdnv when they played the locaf high scnooi teams. The score be tween the boys teams was Wald port 31: Toledo 22. Thu rpsnit of the contest between the girls was waldport 1C, Toledo 3. After the contests the Wald porters treated the Toledo bunch to a banquet after which a dance was held. The Toledoites all en joyed the trip and report a fine time. A meet ing for permanent organisation was called for Friday evening and Saturday morning, Jan. 20 and 27, at the Waldport Grange Hall. All farmers of South Lin coln County and vicinity who desire to take advantage of thl3 new law are urged to attend. Similar associations arc being formed all over the country and it is our privilege to got in line. The stamps were re-, turned with u loiter saying that currency must bo sent.
