BERRY Eugene McCaulou returned last Friday evening from Noon where he has been working In the logging camps. C. C. Pond went to Portland yesterday to have an operation performed on his leg. Prof. John Straub, Dean of Liberal Arts, University of Ore gon, arrived In Toledo last even ing and delivered an address be fore the students of the high school this morning. We ac knowledge a call. The county court of Lincoln county Is figuring on making a levy of about 14 mills. It might make the people, "who are kick ing about high taxes here, feel better to know that the Polk county court made a levy of 22 mills, Crook county 26 mills and Lcne county 18 mills. Attorney Jones of Newport was a Toledo visitor Saturday, Fred Horning received a car of oats from Corvallls last Satur day. Lester Waugh and Billy Giah am returned from Portland Sun day. Ed Stocker the Newport butcher was In the city Satur day. B. A. Fielding of Taft was a Toledo visitor several days the first of the week. W. T. Ball the Barber return ed Friday evening from his trip to Washington. Fred Gee who lives on the Newport-Toledo road returned last Saturday from a few weeks visit at Medford. Jr G. -Hammond recently re turned from an extended ab sence In California. Mr. Ham mond owns a fine little ranch on Olalla. David Baird departed Satur day morning for Moreland, Kan sas, where he will look after pro perty Interests. He expects to return in the Spring at the latest. Hurt was a passenger for Port land Saturday. While In the metropolis Vic will attend the meeting of County Commission ers and Judges of the State of Oregon. County Judge R. R. Miller left Monday morning to attend this meeting. The Gasoline fishing schooner, Freemont, was pulled out on the ways at the Hanson shipyards this week. The boat, which is owned by the Corvallis Meat Co., of CorvalliB, will be thoroughly overhauled and painted and a new engine will be Installed. The boat 'will be used for deep sea fishing. The local order of Moose are making arrangements for a big dance, to be held here In Toledo on Christmas night, Monday the 2Cth. This will make the third annual dance given by the Moose and the other two have both been hummers, so. we are safe in saying that everybody will get their money s worth.
