WHICH ALL HELPS ' ADVERTISE OREGON Few people realize the great amount of publicity that the Northwest received last year and. will receive this year on account of the Washington State-Brown University football game ' last year and the University of Ore-gon-U. of Pennsylvania football game to be played at Pasadena; Cal. as a special feature of the 28th annual Tournament of Roses' on coming New Years Day. "" ' ' Lovers of sport and others In all parts of this country will read of this game and of the Univer sity of Oregon,' conceded by many to be the strongest foot ball tsam ever turned out at Eugene. It is without doubt the greatest amateur Bportlng event of the year for Western sport fans. Last year Washington State College football team brought fame to their Alma Mater and a feeling of pride to the whole Northwest by decisively defeat ing the strong Brown University ! team of Providence R. I. Should I the U. of Oregon duplicate this year by winning from the U. of Penn. it will show without argu I ment that the Pacific Northwest j schools are to be reconed with when picking the champion I football team of the United States. In addition to the football team representing the North west at Pasadena New Yearj Day, the Portland Hotel will be represented by a very beautiful float in the parade of the. Tourn ament of Roses. O IT KICKED BACKWARDS Recently a merchant of Nat chez happened to see a farmer receive a box at the depot and noticed that It came from a mall order house. He also noticed that the goods were right in his line and the same as he had car- nea ior years. He Immediately approached the farmer and said: "I could have sold you tho goods you have here for les3 money than the Chicago housoj and saved you the freight." "Then why don't you do so?' said the farmer. "I have taken the local paper for a year and have not seen a line about you selling these or any other goods. This mail order home sends ad vertising matter to me asking for my trade, and they get It. If you have any bargains why dou't you put them In the paper bo we can see what they are?"
