Bulletin No. 2 Why We Are Opposing A Government Armor Plant To the People: Some people say that the very fact that the Bethlehem Ptccl Company is so ajrpressively fighting the proposal to build a Government armor plant is conclusive proof that the Company is seeking to assure for itself the "vust profits" derived from private manufacture. The fact is that armor making is the least profitable feature of steel manufacture. a . a The reason we oppose a Government plant is very simple. It is this: Even though there is but little profit in the making of armor, wc have invested over - $7,000,000 in our armor plant; That plant is useless for any other purpose; if a Government plant is built the useful ness of our plant is destroyed. (. It would be pood business for us to mahc armor for tho Govern ment at any price over and above the actual shop cost, RATHER THAN SACRIFICE OUR ENTIRE INVESTMENT. , 1 ' We do not seek to save big profits; our purpose is very frankly to save our armdr plant itself built solely for the use of the Government from going to the scrap heap. They went as delegates to the Masonic Grand Lodge In session In that city. The Leader job department is getting out the posters for a big celebration to be held at Taft the 4th of July. All are Invited to attend and are promised a good time. A crew of surveyors have been in tbe field this week surveying a line for a railroad from Siletz to Toledo via Olalla . It Is ru mored that this Is to be an elec tric road and will utilize the water power in the Siletz river to generate Julco. Complaint has been made to the County Court by the rail road company that children have been piling rocks on the railroad track. In one instance they made such a pile in the middle of the track that the train was com pelled to stop while the crew re moved the rocks. Parents should caution their children not to do this as it might result In a serious wreck. Vance Cline and Tonl Genini of Eddyville made proof on their homesteads before County Clerk Howell Tuesday. Miss Maude Miller went to Portland the first 'of the week for a visit with friends and to take in the Rose Show. E. T.
