SENTENCED TO
THIRTY DAYS
Clarence Beauchamp was sen
tenced to thirty days in the
county jail yesterday as a re
sult of his refusal to sign an affi
davit. He has appealed the
case. The. case was tried in
Justice Crosno's court with the
following jury: I. F. Hiser, C.
Boeckman, A. M. Gildersleeve,
V. D. Graves, Hans Larson and
E. B. Shumway.
Under the new local option
law it seems that if a person 13
placed under oath and then
makes an affidavit, which, when
taken down by the stenographer,
he refuses to sign, he can be
proscuted for not signing same.
Marion Sturdevant, charged
with giving liquor to a minor,
waived examination and was
bound over to the grand jury.
Wm. Mitchell will be tried
Apiil 24th on a charge of violat
ing Section 6 of tt-.j local option
law, which relates to the dispos
ing of liquor without a license.

The trains on the Corvallis &
Eastern resumed operating on
their regular schedule yester
day. The tunnel at Summit
has so far been cleared of the
slide and repaired that both the
passenger and freight trains
passed through yesterday for the
first tfnie in two weeks.

The Boy Scouts made an at
tack upon Third 6treet between
the Courthouse and lull street
last Saturday. One glance at
the Btreet is sufficient to show
that he assault was a complete
success. Keep up the good

Civic Club treated the Scouts to
ice cream after the battle,

Portland last Saturday evening.
They made the trip overland in

by Mensrs. McCluskey and Ar
nold. . They report a good trip,
thought the roads were pretty
rough through the mountains,
Geo. A. Watts of Aurora has
traded for the Redfleld place at
Mill Four, moving on the place
last week. Mr. Redfleld and
family have moved to town and
are occupying the Warnock
bungalow.
The pupils of the Eighth grade
are preparing a program which
will be presented at the Dime
next Thursday evening. A short
play will be one of the numbers,

Monday morning for Eastern
Oregon for a short visit. He
accompanied by his wife and
