On Sunday the tide was 12 feot with a steady southwest wind blowing a Bale all day. The storm got so bad that the Flfield had to cut loose from the dock and go further up tho bav. She anchored In what Is known as Brown's Bend, below Oys tervllle. The water at this place Is forty feet deep, land locked and safe. Here she stayed all night and tho next morning tied up at the Yaqulna docks. While In the bend the fisher men's nets came In contact with the vessel. Thero was some swearing, not among the boatmen, but among tho fishermen. It Is a fine thing to havo such a safe harbor where vessels can seek shelter from tho storms and be secure. The water Is ample, the bay proper hns n depth of wator nil the way from 10 to 40 feet at low tido for a distance of from 8 to 10 miles, and a width of 1200 yards. Mrs. Rose Schcnck, Democratic can didate for County Clerk, was billed to speak at the Grange Hall Saturday afternoon, but owing to the stormy weather few were present. The teacher and pupils have Intro duced tho "hot lunch system" in our school and they enjoy it very much. Chnunccy, Roy and Reynolds Ohmart went to Seal Rocks Monday. The minstrel show piven v.t the Mid way theater by the Toledo Land was a very crest success flnan tally and otherwise. The house das filled to its capacity and a good many had to be turned away. The charm ters were all well sustained. The tjnga, dances, Jokes and repartee were very fine. The coons sustained their parts well, Ex-Sheriff Jim Rons was the star slner. The "Old Church Bell, DIcg, Deng" was cung to perfection. It cap tivated the audience. The dance at the Casaino was well attended and a very pleasant affair. Miss I'aine pie sided at tho piano and the orchestra played some very beautiful selections. The Toledo band added much to the pleasure and success of the entertain ment. R. R. Miller was the leader of the band. Tho bend played on the streets and at the postofflce to the edification of the people. Died at her home In Newport after a lingering il'ness of more than a year, October 20th, 1S14, Mrs. H. D. BluVely, aged 65 years, 10 months and 21 days. Mrs. Hlnkely was born in the stats of New York in 1859 and came to New port In 1905, where she made her home up to the time of her ceath. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and uIbo'r member of the Rhododen dron Rcbckah lodge. No. 136, I.O.O.F. The funeral will take place at the Presbyterian church Thursday at 10 a. m., conducted by the pastor. Rev. C. T. Hurd. Tho lnterrment will take place In Eureka cemetery conducted by the Rebekah lodge. She Is survived by her husband and two sons, Lloyd and Vincent, who live in Newport. The Flfield Is now moored at the Patrick dock ready 10 go out when tho bar calms down. She has on board 600,000 feet of lumber bound for San Tedro. A union temperance meeting will be held at the Presbyterian church Sunday evening at 7:30 p. m. They reported a pleasant trip and think they will settle here. Chitwood ' Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Wilson and fam ily came In from Buxton one day last week. They are now living at River tide Fruit Farm. M. T. Whitney came up from New port Saturday. Archie Wilson left for Toledo Mon. day evening. Mrs, James Cordell and daughter, Lama, came down from Eddyvllle few days ago to visit friends here. They returned home Monday. George T. Smith made trip to To ledo Tuesday. Prof. John Kurtlchanov la now teach ing the Little Elk school up above Eddyvllle. H. A. Bchlecht and son, Arthur, of Toledo are building a house for R. W. Pepin. Reck Creek Arthur Wlgle returned from Elllns burgh, Washington, to spend the Win ter with his mother on Rock creek. Royal Plank Is hauling lumber from No: tons this week. Mrs. Potwora and son. Frank re turned from Portland last Friday, whero they had been to attend the marriage ot Mrs. Potwora's daughter, Carolyne. . Clinton Southwell, accompanied by his cousin, Chester Ward, of Fals City, came in to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Southwell. Clinton finished the public school on Rock creek and Is now attending High School In Falls City. County School Supervisor Davis vis ited the Rock Creek school last week. Mrs. Geo. Cox returned Saturday from a two weeks' visit with friends in the Valley. , Since the burning of the Orton store and postofflco the postofflce has been moved to the residence of P. 11. Elting. Henri Zebkidin made a business trip to tho Lower Farm last wotk. George Cox was a business visitor to the county seat last Friday. Last Thursday Grandma Hampton was pleasantly surprised by a bunch of her most Intimate lady friends who marched In upon her with a grand charge. Grace Hampton, Grandma's daughter, planned the surprise to help celebrate Grandma's 75th birthday. A fine dinner, was served and all had a good time In general. Those present were Mrs. J. H.
