ABOUT BOOZE
Those who oppose prohibl
hition and who read the last
Oregon Sunday Journal, had a
hard jolt by that Interview of the
warden of our 6tate peniten
tiary. He said, "if I could wipe
out booze I could almost empty
the prison and keep it empty."
And those who advocate high
license in Toledo ought to have
visited our "cooler" last week,
which held eight drunks at a
time with others lying around
under trees. $2000 income and
at least four times that loss is
not good business for any town.
And the children suffer the most
In 50 years of teaching I have
had no really bright pupil whose
father used liquor to excess.
And so-called "moderate drink
ing" is excess. Vote right In
November.
That $1500 Exemption
It will positively lessen the tax
of every one of my neighbors.
It win lessen the tax of nearly
all fanners on small places. It
will increase the tax of those
who hold unimproved lots In
towns and in the country.
Three-fourths of Lincoln coun
ty lands are held by non-resident
owners mostly specula
tors. Three-fourths of Toledo
lots are unimproved. These
will pay more tax, and Justly.
No one has a moral right to hold
land he does not use, but holds
for speculation.
And voting for this exenin-
i tion votes again to tax the
