Mr. and Mrs. David Baird de parted Tuesday morning for their old home at Moreland, Kas. vhere they will spend a month looking after their farm and other interests. J. D. Elting of Upper Farm was tranacting business in this city Monday. Fred Rattey went to Port land last Saturday on a short business visit. Miss Eleanor Grady returned Tuesday evening from a visit at Kings Valley. Mrs. Grant Hart returned Saturday evening from a visit in the Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hall and wife came over from Siletz the first of the week. Dr. and Mrs. Tharp were called to Elk City Wr Satur day, returning Sunday. Miss Edwards of Moore's Camp visited over Sunday with Miss Edna Plank in this city. Valentine Thlel was up from Newport Tuesday and called in and paid for another year's Leader. Road Master Beezley is this week surveying below the Siletz Agency for a bridge across the Siletz river. Mrs. George Hamar and child ren arrived down from Nortons Tuesday evening for a visit with relatives and friends and to take in the Fair. Mrs. Mae Newton arrived over from Portland Monday evening and is visiting at the McCluskey home in this city. Walter Hall and wife were over from Siletz Monday. Mr. Hall was looking after a car of flour for his firm. Carpenter Scblecht and son are building an addition onto R. A. Anderson's boat building es tablishment this week. Mrs. Maude Horning Ells worth came over from Albany Sunday for a visit with relatives and friends in this city. County Judge Fogarty went to Newport Monday afternoon on the launch Eola,, on business connected with his office. N. II. Sherwood came over from Albany last Sunday and is spending a week with his family on Olalla and taking in the fair. Mrs. Alice Waugh returned Sunday from Corvallis where she accompanied her daughter, Elma, who has again entered 0. A. C. Mrs. E. Ofstedahl returned Sunday from a visit at Portland. She was accompanied by her niece, Lottie Krogstad, who will visit friends and relatives here for a while. At a meeting of the clergy and lay delegates of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, held In Port land last week, the Rev. Walter T. Sumner of Chicago was elec ted to succeed the late Bishop Charles Scaddlng, who died in Portland last June. The Chica go rector has aked for a few days' time to consider the call, but Portland friends feel confi dent that he will accept. Rev. Mr. Sumner is clergyman of a fashionable Episcopal church in Chicago and is very active in social service work in that city.
