siderable controversy between the
City of Waldport and the County
Court, over the condition of the
roads leading into Waldport. from
the beach and from the souh.
There is no controversy between
Waldport and the County Court
over the condition of roads leading
into Waldport from the beach, from
the south, or from anywhere else;
but there is a difference of opinion
between the mayor of Waldoort
and tht County Court as tn the ex
penditure of county road funds
within the corn'irate limits nf tho

P. H. Elting of Siletz was in the
city yesterday as a witttess for
George Cox who made proof on his
homestead. Mr. Elting called in
and paid up another year's sub
scription while in town.
Mrs. C. G. Copeland passed
through fro.n Newport yesterday
morning to the home of her son,
Rowland, in Eastern Oregon, where
she will visit. Before returning
home she will visit in Texas and
other states.

Commissioners' Court is being held
here this week. Among the im
portant transactions was the order
ing of local option elections to be
held at Waldport and Newport on
the election November 4th. Toledo
will not vote on this question.
J. F. Stewart appeared before the
Board of Commissioners of the
Port of Toledo last Wednesday arid
asked that the Port nav Wm.
( Mackey the sum of $800 for the
injuries he sustained whjle work
ing on the port dredge in the place
of Robert Mann last .Soring.
Stewart claims that McFadden &
Clarke of Corvallis are about to
sue the Port of Toledo on behalf
of Mr. Mackey for $10,000 dam
ages, but that Mr. Mackey would
settle in full at this time for $800.
No action was taken by the Port
Commissioners.
