Teachers and Grangers to Meet There will be a meeting of the Teachers acd the Grangers at Ona. in the Grange Hall. Saturday, Oc tober lftu. The meeting is for YOU as well as for the teachers and" Grangers, so come and help make the other fellow think he is doing the grandest work that can be done, for it is by helping him or them that we get the strength to do our own work better. This meeting is for all, there is a place for you. even if you are not a teacher, and you don't have to be a granger to fill it. At the meet ing we are going to talk about schools for I want the people to know whs: we are doing in the Kchools, and we will talk about farm or ranch work, for I want the teachers and the pupils to know something about raising and caring for stock and poultry, cooking, sewing, and wood work will have their time and place on the pro gram. Uome out and help us for it is by working together that the greatest good can he accomplished. R. P. Goin. School Superintendent. P. L. Fred Russell, acccompanied by bis mother, departed Monday morn ing for a couple of weeks' visit at Roseburg. 1 R. H. Colb arrived down from Newberg last Friday evening and took up his residence on the Frank Smith pkce. which he recently purchased, on Depot slough. Mrs. Cobb and daughters, Pearl and Sylvia, arrived Tuesday evening. Mr. Cobb brought several head of dairy stock with him. H. P. Eamel, lately of San Fran cisco, has bought the watchmaking and jewelry business of Jack Pel inulder. Mr. Hamel is an ex perienced workman and we predict success for him in the business here. In his ad in this issue he invites the people of the commun ity to visit him. look over bis stock and examine his work, which, he guarantees. Mr. Pehnulder will remain here for a time at least. 'Rev. F. S. Clemo and family ex cept Mis3 Mae who is a teacher in our schools, departed for their future home atShedds. after spend ing a year here, Rev. Clemo being pastor of the local M. E. church. Rev. Sanford Snyder and wife ar rived in from Salem Saturday even ing. Rev. Snyder will be pastor of the M. E. church here during the coming year. He preached his first sermons here Sunday. Going out in Clarence's auto Fri day they burned out the clutch a little this side of Blodgett. They 'phoned to Albany for another machine which came out and towed them in Clarence will leave his car at Albany this Winter, bring' ing it over here again in the Spring Today fa the day of the "big noise" all over the Pacific coast, when word is flashed that the dam seperating the waters of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans has been blown away, in the Panama canal. In celebration of this most important event nil wheels of industry will be stopped for a period of one minute and all whistles, bells and other noise making devises will be brought into use. Toledo is ex pected to do her part. Mr. and Mrs K P. Goin returned Saturday evening from the State Fair at Salem. They were well pleased with the fair, but were very much disappointed in the fact that the Lincoln county school ex hibits did not arrived there in time to be placed on exhbit. The ex hibit was shipped from here Satur day morning and did not arrive at Salem until the following Friday afternoon. Superintendent Goin says that our exhibits would' have been equal if not superior to any school exhibits on display at the fair. Fifteen friends were entertained at a "circus" whist party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. II. Gard ner in this city last Friday evening. The guests present were Mrs.Cuth bert, Mr. and Mrs. Win. Scarth, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Huffman. Sheriff and Mrs. Geer, Misses Verno Ror?. Esther Ccpeland, Frances Simpcon, Messrs. Lcn Butteriield. Dr. Burgosa, Eversti Cuok, Fred Russell and R. E. Col lins. Mrs. Gecr won fist prize and Miss Simpson captured the booby prize. At midnight a dainty lunch was served with ice cream, cake, pink lemonade, peanuts and other circus "eats."
