The first game of the series be

the latter. Their superior team

the series by a score of 9-7. The

The Newport boys put up a game
tight but could not overcome the
early lead of their opponents.
Hauser and Daugherty each secured
a. triple and Simpson a double.
Cattle Have
No Diseases
Dr. Harry Nunn, deputy state
veterinarian of McMinnville, was
in attendance at the Fair Wednes
day and tested the stock on exhibit,
as to the presence of certa'n dis
eases prevalent among cattle. He
stated that he found the stock here
unusually healthy, with no indi
cations of any diseases of a tuber
cular character.
The exhibit of stock this year
was very light and it is thought
the reason was because people were
afrtid to place their stock on ex
hibit, fearing they would be re
jected by the state veterinarin.
But it seems there is runted for any
such fear as he informs ts that the
stock is unusually healthy here.
Mrs. C. W. Harding and daughter
Clara are expected home from Neb
raska tomorrow evening.
T. G. Wheeler of De3 Moines,
Iowa, i3 visiting with his nephew,
S. B. Ports, a few days this week.
About the busiest place in town
this week was the Leader job office,
it being swamped with Fair printing-Mrs.
Lee Wade returned Monday
evening from a visit ' with her
daughter, Mrs. Lola Cruson, at Al
bany. Mrs. M. M. Headley of Los
Angeles, California, arrived last
Thursday evening to visit her
cousin, Mrs. S. E. Coffin.
John Moore of Newport was a
Fair visitor Newport Day. Of
courst. he called in and paid up
another year's subscription while in
town,
Jesse Farrin. the barber, came
up from Taft on the schooner Ne
nanifsha Wednesday and has been
assisting in the Toledo Barber Shop
during the fair rush,
DIED At -the hoiiie of Billy
Umatata, near Siletz, on September
20. 1913. Emma Hill, aged about
80 years, widow of the late Citizen
John.
Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Ryan and
son, Oscar, of Ona were among the
Fair visitors yesterday. Mr. Ryan
will keep the Leader coming to his
home for another year at least, by
the payment of another dollar and
a half.

It is not pleasant and profitable
