On Monday the Ollie S. with 25 nimrods went down to Heceta head to shoot sea lions. Everyone was supplied with long range repeating rifles and a full supply of ammuni tion and when they approached close to the place 'where the sea lions are supposed to be the hunters opened a general fusilade in the direction where the lions should have been. At least 500 shots were fired. When the smoke clear ed away only two little baby lions were found killed and nothing else. To a person not familiar with such a noise he would naturally think a Japanese army had turned loose on the country. Each hunter that fired claimed the honor of killing the little lione, but it is really not known who did kill them. This is the breeding ground of the sea lion but at this season of the year not many of them are there. But the day was fine and if the party d;d not succeed in killing big game they killed a lot of surf ducks and other sea foul and had a splendid trip and a safe return. The Ahwaneda came in Saturday with a full cargo of freight for Newnnrt and loledo. She also brought in a large trrction engine for Bush Davis to be used in exca vating for the reservoir that is be ing built by the city, and it will also be used in grading Case street and other street improvements in Newport. A half dozen beats are now en gaged in decD sea fishing and ail of them are making good catches of rock and lin cod and halibut. Since the ice plant commenced to operate fish can be easily kept. Editor Leader: Here at Rose Lodge we really have some people who do not care whether we have a schoolhouse or not as it proved to be tho case on the 12th inst, at the special school meeting held for tha purpose of obtaining a little more money to complete the building cf the r.ew schoolhouse in district No. 43. The clerk read to the voters present at this meeting the sDecifications. the builder's contract and also lumber bill and proved to the voters that the school board is still short of about $384 in order to have the schoolhouse completed, a six mill soecial tax would have to be voted All present voted and when the votes were counted there was a majority of three against the special tax, or more clearly stated there were 10 names and 7 -yes. That settled the question of getting any more money. Besides this some of the good voters said they will never allow the school board to use the money they already have on hand ($522), and that they will stop the board from completing the schoolhouse which has already been started.
