Mr. and Mr. Elmer Helms visited the first of the week with-Mr, and Mrs. C. 0. Havvkina in this city. G. W. Andrews came in the first cf the week and hud the date on his subscription marked up another year. The fourth quarterly conference of the M. E. church, Toledo. Ore gon, will be held on Wednesday, July 23. Misses Barbara and Katie Wan tock (Shinur) arrived down from Portland last evening for a visit witn friends here. Mrs. Sada Davis visited Friday night with her sister, Miss Esther Copeland. here, returning to New port Saturday morning. Arthur Scott returned to his home at Brownsville Saturday noon, after a week's visit among old friends and acquaintances hero and at Siletz. Clarence Miller and friend drove down from Portland Wednesday in Mi. Miller's big auto and will spend several days here with the former's father, J. B. Miller, the logging man. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Hoevet de parted yesterday morning fcr Al bany where they will make their home. Mr. Hoevet, we understand, will enter the sawmill business at that place. The Leader will keetr them posted on Lincoln ponntv I Jack Fogarty last Friday pur chased the residence of J. H. Mc Neil at the corner of First and Grove streets. Mr. and Mrs. Fog arty have occupied this place since coming to Toledo to reside about two years ao. and will now make it their permanent home, , Every sidetrack iri loflh has been full of loaded cars this week, ihe output uf the sawmill. Yesterday it took two enigncs to haul the freight out, and yet the sidings are crowded with loaded cars. We will have to have more side tracks, more trains or stflp the mills from sawing bo much. Word has just been received here that Cecil McNeil was married the 15th of June to Miss Mary Ronco, at Peedee, Polk county. After spending tne bummer on a larm in Polk county they will return to Corona, Culifornia. where they will make their home. Congratulations and best wishes of Cccil'o many friends in Toledo are extended. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Batcman came over from their home on Lower Siletz the first of the week to make proof on their homestead. Leo returned to the ranch today, Mrs. Bateman and son will visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Ross, for some time before return ing. Leo purchased fifty-two weeks more Leader before returning. H. G. Weaver of leaver Creek was in the city Wednesday and left an order at this office for one thousand cucular letters. These letters contain adescription of the beauties of Oregon and Lincoln rounty and tells what a good country it is to live in. It also con tains a description of Mr. Weaver's ranch. Mr. Weaver will circulate these letters in the East and in this unique manner endeavor to find a buver for his place. Mr. Weaver is too old for hard work. The railroad company yesterday put up a semaphore at the station here. This will do away with the flagging. Lester Waugh, the cattle man, went to Portland this morning, where he will purchase fixtures for his new market. S. E. Coffin, who had the cun tract for tearing down the old water tower, completed the job this week Another landmark gone. We are in receipt of the consti tution and by-laws of the Lincoln County Taxpayers League, but ow ing to being crowded for space can not give it this issue, but will next. Dr. Burgess returned Tuesday evening from Corvallis, where he had been attending his little daugh ter, Elsie, who fell from a ladder while visiting her father here last Saturday. . R. J. Davis of Pullman, Wash ington, was here the first of the week looking after his interests on the Siletz. Mr. Davis is instructor of blacksmithing at the Pullman Agricultural College. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Chamberlin and family, with the exception of one son who is coming overland bringing some cows, arrived Wed nesday evening and have taken up their residence on what was the C. John Salvage, who had been at tending the reunion at Gettvsburc returned home Monday evening. Mr. Salvage reports a pleasant trie but says the weather was unmerci fully hot. both nicht and day. and that it is quite a relief to get back to the cooling breezes of the old Pacific. J. C. Carson arrived on Monday's freight with a car of household goods and registered Shorthorn cattle, from Lincoln county, Nev ada. Mr. Carson has purchased the Henry Marsh place of 160 acres on th Yachats and will Eo into the cattle and ' dairy business.
