I prefer to mix it with bran or middlings and al low the birds all they will eat in 15 minutes. If you prefer, it may be fed clear or it may be mixed with the mash. If fed mixed with other foods as above, the birds will not fight for their share. Trap for English Sparrows. Agents of the department of agricul ture have been experimenting for the past three months with devices to trap English sparrows. It has been de termined upon that these birds are harmful to the fruit trees In the spring, eating as they do into the buds and destroying the cores. Manuring Garden In Winter. Any time during the winter or early spring the garden may be manured. The spring rains will dissolve rich ness from fertilizers and carry them down into the soil for feeding the plants next summer. It the garden is manured in winter fresh manure bay be used with safety, as it will have lost much of the heat by planting time. Rules For Measuring Corn. There are many rules for measur ing corn. Inquiries conducted by the Missouri State Board of Agriculture show the following In common use: Sixteen cublo feet of corn in the shock (or extra' well settled 15 feet) make a barrel. The number of cubic feet multiplied by the decimal .4 gives the bushels. . Multiply together the length, width and height of the pen or crib, in inches, and divide by 4,200 for old corn or 4,300 for new corn, to get bushels. Where it can be -done corn should be weighed rather than measured. ' Getting 8eed Grain Early. Do not wait until spring to clean and grade your seed grain. Do it now, while you have plenty of grain at hand from which to select The best twenty-five 'bushels of grain out of a hundred bushels are , worth much more for seed than is the grain that can be cleaned from a much smaller amount In the spring. The cost of thus cleaning and grading the grain is very slight, and it enables one to have heavy, plump seed grain at very little outlay. 8tevenson, While Fighting Off Dis ease There, Seemed Indifferent to the Laws of Health. Twenty tons of bog oak were re cently unearthed at Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales. It measures 48 feet long with a diameter of 2 feet 9 inches.
