McCee's bridge crew is finishing the railrcad bridge here. It is one of the finest bridges on the C. & E. R. R. Riley Stevens and Guy Gillette of Nashville attended the dance here Friday. E. G. Jones is helping L. H. Keithley tuild fence on the latter's homestead south of here. There is a considerable talk of a cannery at Nashville and if one is built it would be a great thing for the country as the farmers would have a good market for their pro duce. H. S. Porter and Fred. Wagner transacted business at Nashville Tuesday. Lloyd Porter who bas been em ployed on the C. & E. railroad for the past five months took a two 'days' lay off the middle of last week. ! R. H. Lane visited a few days last wesk with friends in and around the Resort City. Some of our telephone patrons are very much pleased while others; are slighted. Why? Because they did not receive a permit. A per mit for what? To rubber. Frank Updike got out of his pas ture a few days lust week and took a ride on the railroad cars to Cor vallis. A box social and dance was m'ven last Friday night at Elk City, and a hummer of a time was reported. The proceeds of the baskets bring ing in about S40, which will be utilized in buying cshool supplies. Miss Esther Copeland, Ev Coon, Miles Couk and Maurice Andersen all of Toledo attended the dance Frida night. The most popular young lady of Elk City Friday night was Miss Treisia Hoffman, her basket bring ing the neat little Bum of $5.00. which Miss Hoffman may well be proud of. The Elk City Card Club is still progressing and some interesting games are played and enjoyed in the lobby uf Hotel Elk. Did you take a chance on that big box of candy at Dixon's store? A few more left. Mr. Holen is working at the saw mill. Men seem to be rather scarce. Mrs. V. Calkins bas bought some of Mrs. Anton Young's geese and is going into the business. We hope there may be some for our sports men around Xmas time. Delbert Hodges met with quite an accident last Friday while driv ing logs. In endeavoring to turn a log the peavy slipped and pene trated his leg. With the assistance of one of his companions they ex tracted it, leaving quite a serious wound. Vern Caklins was missing one of his horses and after searching 36 hours fortunately found him in the pasture almost buried alive in a beaver hole.
