McClus iey went to Corvallis this morning. from there they will go to Seattle for a short visit. Ralph Henry, whose trail was on at Albany last week and this, for the killing Of George Dodd, was acquitted by the jury. Ted McElwain, Bert Geer, J. H. Ross, and Ed Payne returned Mon day evening from Albany where they had been attending the Henry trial. Henry Lewis went to Portland Wednesday morning. -He will take his wife who is very sick, to the hospital, where he hopes she will be nursed back to health. The planking of the West Ya quina hill has proved to be of ex ceptional value to the travel during the winter. We hope there will be more used in the different parts of the county. ' The St. Patricks ball given at Oddfellow Hall last Monday even ing was pretty liberally patronized and the boys giving the dance were well pleased, thia beng their first of a series of dances they will give. Postmaster Arnold has added a new lot of combination' boxes in the postoffice, which is greatly ap preciated. George Schenck, ow ner of the postoffice building, has had the room re-papered and paint ed and the lobby enlarged. Chas. Hassman, road' supervisor of district 7, informs us that the road between Yaquina and Toledo will not be opened this year on ac count of the excessive cost ' of bridging the blouphi. but there will be some grading for permanent road and in another year there will undoubtedly be a fine graded r jad between the two points. Peterson have bought the stock of Newton & Nye and Nye & Peterson and wll con tinuc the business at the old stand As they are successors to Nyc & Peterson any bills due them will be payable to the new firm, as the firm of Nyc & Peterson is this day dissolved.
