Owing to a short age it has been necessary to .bring cans from Yaquina by team. K. C. Williamson has bought the Sam Hays place at Tidewater and will not drive the mail team be tween this place and Newport this Winter. Howard Peterson is bring ing the mail. Mrs. Wakefield of Newport was a Waldport visitor last week. Some gcod catches of salmon were reported for last week. Kernville. Hurrah! The Southern Pacific railroad surveyors are at the dike ready to cross the Ny to push their survey north. Will we get a rail road soon? The rough sea drove in a dreadful high tide, which broke through G. S. Parmele's dike ' flooding every thing, but no serious damage was done. Both Mr. Dodson and Mr. Cook of the firm of Dodson & Cook ere away spending a holiday. In their absence Mrs. Mabel Stone is caring for the store Alvin Thorp made Lee Bones a visit last week. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Morrison are moving back on their old home place near Amon Bones G. S. Parmele & Son0 bought some catib of Mampa and the Thorp boys . . A Frank Murray is moving into his new house near the P.esch cheese factory. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Farrin left for Toledo last Tuesday morning. They will go on to Portland where tbey will Epend the Winter Miss Nellie Nixon has begun teaching school up Schooner creek. Judge Gardner and Commissioner Kentta passed through and looked at the road that Mr Abbey of Newport had made on Salmon river. People say the road is fine. Eddyville After an absence of several months we again take pen in hand to let the world know that Eddyville is still cn the map. R. P. Goin visited the Eddyville school Thursday. John Miller of Deer Creek was in town Monday. B. E. Barclay, Democratic candi date for Assessor, was in these parts last week. W. H. Hollis, Republican candi date for joint senator for Lincoln, Yamhill, Washington and Tillamook counties, gave a talk at the school house Monday. A. B. Clarkjof Elk City was in Eddyville last week. Rudolf Ruprecht of Nortons passed through Eddyville Monday, enroute for Toledo. . W. F. WakefieH, the road man, has a crew at work filling in be tween the new bridge and the rail road track. The basket social held at the schoolhouse Saturday evening was well attended and was a success fin ancially. About $30 was ta'en in, which is to be used to purchase sporting goods for the baseball players, and games for the girls. A petition is being circulated asking the express company to re establish the office at this place with Mr. Kolkow as agent. This is a move in the right direction as we certainly need the express office and Mr. Kolkow will make good as agent. Pady Wakefield succeeded in getting the right basket at the social Saturday .night if it did cost him $4.50. Ralph Pepin has the new bridge at Eddyville almost finished. This is one of the best built bridges in the county, the cordo being dove tailed at each splice, and it is en closed with a good roof of Lincoln county shingles. Mr. Pepin is an up-to-date workman and his bridges show for themselves. Glen School opened last Monday with ten scholars the first day. Miss lone Glines ef Waldport is the teacher. Mrs. J. W. Davenport visited Mrs. W. H. Daniel of Big Elk Saturday. John and Jesse Davenport were entertained at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R Moore last Saturday night. Ray Brown returned frnm thn Valley Sunday to attend school. C. W. Brown and J. W. Daven port went to Toledo Saturday. Asa Brown went to Elk Citv Sat- i urday. j Mrs. W. K. Moore and son, Alva, visited Mr. and Mrs. C. C Lane, of Big Elk Sunday. George and Frank Lang of Port and are over in these parts hunting this week. Raleigh Applet of Salado was over hunting with John Davenport Sunday. W. R. Moore went to Elk City Monday. Jesse Davenport thinks there is fine fishing in the creek near the school house these days. Ross McElwain went to Reddings, California, last Tuesday morning, where he will make proof on his timbe claim. He expects to re turn home next Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Walters de parted yesterday morning for their home at Elmira, after an extended visit with Mrs. Walter's sister, Mrs. A. T. Peterson in this city. The football boys played a tie game with Siletz last Sunday at the latter place. Next Sunday To ledo and Newport will play on the local ground. This will undoubted ly be a very interesting game as both teams have been practicing hard. Admission 35 cents. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Farrin were visiting friends and relatives in this city the fore part of this week. They' departed yesterday morning for Portland where Mr. Farrin has accepted a position with the law firm of Farrin, Lept & Farrin, 707 Selling Bldg. Mr. Far rin will remain there all Winter at least.
