Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Miller of

son of Portland were Waldport
visitors last week, leaving Monday.
Mark Hays is driving the mail
stage for Frank Johnson.
The Waldport teachers are plan
ning a Halloween party.
Bert Barclay has departed for
the north nd of the county, where
he will get acquainted with some
of tire voters.
The apple crop in this part of the
county has been very good. There
was a large yield per tree and the
quality waB excellent.

Mr. and Mrs. John Olson spent
Sunday with 0. M. Johnson's. ,
A. K. Oiler has the new roof on
his house and wil) complete the in
terior at add times during the rainy
season.
Miss Carrie Wbeelock went to
Waldport Saturday to attend school
this Winter.
A. C. Miller of Albany is visiting
with his son, Curtis

Schoick have been working on the
telephone line this week.
Mrs. Bessie Shermer and Miss
G'adys King were Sunday visitors

Mrs. Tim Dowling and daughter,
Kitty,' departed Monday for Cor
vallis. Kernville.
The sad news reached us of the
death of Uncle Amon Bones. He
died in Tennessee, where he and
his wife had gone for a visit at
the'r childhood home. He will be
greatfy missed here where he had
many warm friends.'
G. S. Parmele and sons sold 22
head of fat cattle to Dan Savage
last week.
Our cheess man on Schooner
creek is going to stock up .his dairy
with Holstein cows and prove to us
which are the better for cheese,
Holsteins or Jerseys.
The schooner Gerald C. was in the
1st of the week and took out a
' load offish for the Elmore com
. pany. (
Mr. Gibbs and family are going
to return and spend the Winter
. here.
Mrs. Clarence Parmele and chil
dren were visiting at G. S. Par
mele's a few days last week.
Jesse Farrin's have sold off their
stock and -will start for Portland
next week, going by way of Toledo.
Walter Bones has their new house
mar completion.
' Elders Cottell and T. H. Star
buck will be here in the near future
to' hold meetings. All are invited.

L. H. Payne of Toluo was in our
' vicinity looking at some farms. He
. is thinking of trading his town
property for a farm. This is a
good place to come to make money
and a good living. .

Mrs. S. A. Holmgreen has gone
to Albany for medical aid.

staying. with her brother, Eli De

the home of her daughter near

John Philips took his daughter,
Irene, to Philomath Friday to see a
doctor, returning the same day.
Mrs. Cooper is BDendinor a few

John Kurtichancv went to New
port on the excursion Sunday.

blew a good many apples off the
trees.

Comm issioncr Kentta was iu our
part of the county last week' look
ing over our roads, and we judge
from his actiuns he was pleased
with the way our supervisor, Mr.
P. Deakins, build roads. We all
think the Court made a wise choice
and fesl sure thev will make the
same choice for next year. A few
years like the past and we will have
no mud holes to wallow through.
H. R. Deakins has erected a very
neat house on his farm which adds
to the appearance of the country.
Mr. Kangusers have built a two
and one-half story square house.
Lot of room. W. L. Crowley has
a neat house just completed. There
is a fine schoolhoue under construc
tion on Salmon river. So take it
all around this part of tho country
shows prosperity.
There have been several places
changed hand3 the last few months.
Among the last was 80 acres from
John Deakins to a man by the name
of Bowman.
A part of the Rose Lodge tele
phone is connected with the Bentley
company's lines and bave service
through to Willimina. The Bent
ley company sure has a good line.
It is very near election time and
we haven't had a chance to shake
hands with a candidate bo far.

'Judge Gardner was in our parts
last week looking over the new
road, which will soon be finished.
Nothing like good roads.
Miss Nellie Nixon has returned
from her trip to Portland and is
teaching school up Schponer creek.
Arthur Gorton was seeing to his
interests, at his home Sunday.
. Clarence Parmele has built a new
room for Mr. Gort m and his boys,
as he fears the tent would not with
stand the Winter winds. N Mr. Gor
ton seems to continue about the
same.
The Otis postoffice ; is again
changed from Mrs. Pierce's to the
main road one-half mil from the
cheese factory. This will be han
dier for mailcarriers. .
Mrs. Carrie Parmele has been
quite sick tbe past week with la
grippe.
Harry Thorp and family went to
the Valley with a lead of cheese
this week.
Chas. Gorton was visiting his
brother, William, Saturday.
Ralph Winters has moved to his
place near the Lake for the Winter.
Lilbom Hardin has laid cheese
making aside till the cows come
home again
Mr. Nixon's youngest daughter
ia very sick at present.
Mr. Hilt had the frame work of
his house up when he went to the
Valley and the hard wind the other
night blew it to the ground.
John Mair, Jr., is Bteadily work
ing away on his cheese factory. He
will be ready for business in the
Spring. : . . - v

DIED. .
At the home of Mr. , and Mrs.
Lester Grant, a two months' old
daughter, from whooDinz couch.
leavinn a mother, father and a two
year old brother and many friends
and relatives to . mourn her loss.
We are all in deep sympathy for
the mother and father. The child
died Saturday, October 19th, 1912
and was buried October 20th, at
3:30 p. m.. Sunday.- Many friends
were there to mourn her death.
Mrs. Martin read the burial services
and we all join in thanking her
many, many times for her kind
ness. . '
