Dr. Adams will visit Tidewater and Alsea. Hon. W. P. Keady of Portland, an old time settler on Alsea bay, has been visting friends here and at Newport. Dr. C. E. Linton has bought an auto from Mr. Wilkes of Hillsboro. The machine is an E. M. F. 30 and just the thins: for beach work from here to the Yachats. We are waiting for election. Perhaps the Otis correspondent will then wear a pleasant smile for we surely, want him to succeed in land in? Ben Selling in the U.S. Senate. Hawley paid us a flying visit Saturday afternoon, the 5th inst., and addressed a large audience in the M. E. church. One ery noticable feature of Congress man Hawley's speech was practically a total absence of any reference to himself. We like our Congressman are for and with him and will give him a handsome majority November 5th. Mr. T. C. Jackson was chair man of the meeting. Messrs. Ross. beer and McCaulou of TnWn r. ndered some fine vocal selections Scott Lane and John Adams made appropriate addresses. Last Saturday night the Siletz' Baseball Team gave a basket social. Ex-Mail Carrier L. E. Chantel of Rocca was over Friday. ' Brown'B bridge crew, which has been hero for some time, has moved to Summit. Ona L. F. Smith went to Oregon City last Monday. He took his little vdaughter, Tressa, for medical aid. Upper Beaver Creek. Jim Wolf of Waldport was the guest of Guy Lewis Sunday. Guy and Jim went to Toledo on business Monday. J. M. Bowers was at Norton on business Monday. Mrs G E. Lewis spent Monday night and Tuesday with Mrs. J. M. Bowers. K. D. Martin is hauling lumber from Fool B.ough to build his house. Guy Lewis, Jim Wolff with sevparl others left for Hebo Tues day, where they will engage in the Government forest service. Whooping cough is raging among the young population. Herb Twombly of Bay View is working for J. M. Bowers this peck. Mrs. L. M. Commons is visiting friends in Newport this week. Mr. and Mrs. Mulkey and family have returned to their Dallas home after spending a pleasant week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Denny. Mrs. George Selby and little daughter returned home Saturday night from the East, where she spent the last two months. Miss Gerturde Phelps has finished her school on Unner Reavpr and has taken a school at Denzer. Lloyd Commons, accompanied hv his friend, returned from the Vallev Saturday. Gertrude Phelps and Hattie 'Ed wards visited at the Hewitt home in West Yaquina Sunday, returning home Monday morning. They en joyed a pleasant trip to Newnort also. A. W. Weber is the nossessor of n new phonograph. A. Gallagher went to Newnort Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Holmrgeeu attended the funeral of their nephew in Yaquina on Tuesday. Fred Commons has gone to Hills boro to visit his sister. Howard West has returned to his home at Brooks after visiting Lloyd Commons. Miss Pearl Gates and Leola Hew itt of West Yaquina visited friends in Ona Saturday and Sunday. L. M. Commons went to N pur port to hear Mr. Hawley speak. S. C. Willoughby returned home from Washington, where they have been visiting iriends and relatives for the past two months. Their son, Richard, and family came with them. John and Charles McDowell of Turn Turn were visitors in our neighborhood last Sunday. Mrs. Mary Cline is visiting her parents at Nortons this week. Don Miller of Wolf Creek was visiting at the home of S. T. Lou don last Sunday. There were a few young folks from Turn Turn attended the dance given at the home of Mrs. Stand ard last Saturday night. Kenneth Loudon was quite sick last week but much improved at this time. The Messrs. Wood and Fallett were buying cattle in this valley one day last week. The stock of all kinds ara in fine shape thi3 Fall. Our school started on a seven months' voyage last Monday with J'iss LaVilla Dickson of Toledo at the helm. We wish her buccess in every way. Wakefield, the hog man, of Little Elk, bought all the hogs in this rart of the county and was not satisfied so he went over to Ben ton county and bought fifty head more and still he wants more hogs. Rogaway, the junk man, was around last week gathering up hides, etc. The Wafer Bros, have vacated the Branderberry place, one going to Seattle with his family, the other family moving onto the Lash baugh place in the upper end of the valley. Marivn Branderberry and family have moved on hib father's place and will farm it the coming year. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin have re turned to their Lincoln county ranch, after an extended absence. Mr. and Mrs.Chas. Lillard visited over night at the P. H. Martin home list Saturday night. I think Harlan has the champion wnman walker of, her age, Mrs. Elhabeth January, who has passed the shore near South Beach and the life Eavers had gone on board hut were afraid to enter the cabin as the water was deep. Later a thorough seach was made by M. M. Hackley and C. E. Vanderpool and the bodies of Tarld Tellefson John D. McKenzie and Michael Henry were found. A further search failed to reveal the bodies of Claude Toner and Forrest Wooster and it is supposed that thev were washed into the sea when the boat cap sized. Plans were made when the boat left Yaquina Saturday morn ing to remain out until Sunday evening and provisions were taken to supply the need;f of ths crew for that time. Why an attempt was made to return before Sunday even ing is not known. The "Pilgrim" is a new boat, re cently brought here from Toledo and this was the third trin she had made over the bar. The beach from Heceta Head to NowDort is being constantly patrolled in hopes oi recovering the bodies of Claude Toner and Forrst Wooster. The f eral of Tarld Tellefson was held at .Newport at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning from the Copeland under taking parlors. People from all parts of the country attended, us the deceased was well known and had many warm friends. Deepest regrets were expressed at his un time'y death. The floral offerings were profuse. A. Hackley on Thursday evening of last week. A musical game occupied the greater part of the evening and afforded much enjoyment to the v guests. Before departing refreshments were served. 'There will be no meeting this week. Chas. Allen's mother and father arrived from Philomath Sunday morning and spent the day with their son.
