Bid Mayo is here for a short visit.
Lee Johnson had his right thumb
broken at baseball practice.
If George Nerto'n and Fred Chapin
went up to Alsea and assisted the
Alsea team in several games
against Corvallis.
Ira Bray has erected a tall flag
pole in his yard and celebrated the
glorious Fourth in proper style.
Charles Bobell is the latest victim
in the line of accidents. He had
his left knee severely bruised by a
running launch engine.
Considerable improvement has
been done during the past few
weeks in the way of street grading.
R. E. Harncs and H. Guest of
Roseburg have been Waldport visit
ors for several weeks.
Prof. Paul J. Orr is here rep
resenting the Fistier Flouring Mills
of Seattle, Washington.
These are busy days for the fish
ermen who. are preparing their nets
for the season which opens July
15th. Quite a number of salmon
are now in the bay. They are of
ten Eeen jumping.
The Wilhelmina was in Sunday
with a small cargo and left for Siu
slaw and Coos bay Monday noon.
A. G. Helms & Co. have a con
tract lo build a new schoolhouse at
the Crocker district.
Ocean View is quite progressive
these days with a money order office
and a daily mail.
W. R. Moore, is home again to
remain until after harvest.
Charley Brown and family spent
Sunday with the Moore family.
Wm. Davenport killed a large
bear near the Glen schoolhouse
Saturday. The bear had been visit
ing his goats quite regular.
J. E. Crooks returned Wednesday
from the Valley, where he has been
on business.
J. T. Daniels was visiting Glen
friends Sunday. He and Ray Calk
ins will begin work Monday on the
grand bowery to be built on the
Big Elk celebrating grounds.
A few of the near neighbors en
joyed a pleasant evening at Moore's
last Wednesday. After dancing
until eleven lunch was served and
the guetsts departed.
Little. Mildred Smith met with a
serious accident Friday by falling
against the stove and burning her
lace badly.
Tidewater
Tidewater and Alsea played a
matched game of ball Sunday. The
score being 9 to 8 in favor of Alsea.

Tidewater and Corvallis played a
game Sunday, the score being 8 to
2 in favor of Tidewater. Miss Ida

Mrs. Eva Smallwood were the Tide
water rooters Saturday and Sunday.

of Waldport came up Friday to
play ball with Tidewater Saturday
and Sunday.
Mrs. Eva Smallwood's niece, Miss
Taylor of Five Rivers returned
home Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. McMillan of Wald
port are visiting relatives in the
vicinity of Tidewater.
Two Collins boys of Alsea passed
by on their way to Waldport Tues
day. Monta Smallwood went to Cor

Fire Warden Ted McElwain was

Jim Shields, H. S. Porter and J.

Monday and Tuesday.
Pete Mason of Stoer Creek nassed
through here Monday on his way to

Louis Hamar spent Sunday even
ing with his daughter, Thelma,
who is scaying with her uncle, Otis
Hamar, of Nashville.
F. H. Brock of Rocca was trans
acting business here Saturday.
Rod and Darwin Nash were out

Monday evening. They succeeded
in removing the lid to the hive but
that was all. The last we saw of
Lou and Lloyd they were fanninor

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. A. l. Baldwin of Wald
port and is a popular young lady.
Mr. Goin is a brother of County
School Superintendent R. P. Goin
and is one of Lincoln county's
most successful teachers.

Grant King and Ralph Hamar
brought a load of cheese over from
the Siletz cheese factory Monday.
They had on about forty boxes.
Hon. F. W. Chambers and sister,
Miss Esther Copeland, went to New
port last Saturday afternoon for- a
visit with their mother, Mrs. C. G.
Copeland.
Mrs. Frank Whittaker and child
ren, who have been visiting rela
tives here for the pat week, de
parted to tbeir home at Corvallis
this morning.
Bert Dean arrived in from Cor
vallis Monday noon to visit his
brother. R. H. Tlpnn hnt
received a message from a St. Louis
firm offering him a good position
and requesting him to come imme
diately. He took the afternoon
train for that city.
President C. S. Davis of the Lin
coln County Fair, returned Wednes
daj noon from a visit to the Valley
in the interest of the Fair's amuse
ments. He reports having secured
the Arnold Carnival company for
the Fair next month. This com
pany furnished attractions at the
Fair here three years ago, and our
people all know it is a good com
pany. The company will bring
several good shows, a merry-go-round
and will furnish balloon as
censions daily. Mr. Davis assures
us there will be plenty of amuse
ments for all.

MILL TO RESUME OPERATIONS.
Messrs. Montgomery, Huffman
and Hobart, members of the Ore
gon Lumber & Construction Com
pany, were in the city the first of
the week looking . after their pro
perty interests here.
They are considering a deal
whereby Messrs, Hoffman and Ho
bart will lease the mill and run it
independently of the company. If
this deal materializes, and there is
a reasonable certaninty that it will,
these gentlemen will move to To
ledo with their families and person
ally supervise the running of the
mill which will be started at once.
Mr. Hobart is an experienced mill
man having been identified with;

SILETZ WILL BE BRIDGED.
The Commissioners' Court in ses
sion here this week let the contract
for the construction of a steel
bridge across Siletz river, a half
mile below the Agency. The con
tract was awarded to R. E. Meith
of Portland, the price being $9,511.
Of this sum the Siletz road district
pays $1,500, the citizens of Siletz
donate $1,000 and the county pays
the balance. The bridge will be
about 34 feet above low water
onark; a steel span 180 feet long
will span the stream; the approach
on the Siletz 6ide will be 180 feet
long and the south approach will
be 80 feet long, the bridge will be
16 feet wide, the structure to rest
on concrete piers.' The bridge must
be finished this Fall.

will meet at 8 o'clock p.' m., July
llth at the City Hall in Toledo.

In a fast game on the local diam
ond last Sunday Siletz came off vic
torious by the above score. The
game wsa a hotly contested one all
the way through and was nobody's
game until the final gong rang.

BASEBALL SUN DAY.
Next Sunday the Eddyvillle team
will play Toledo team on the local
diamond. This will be the first
time these , teams have contested,
and it will be a good game. Eddy
ville has a good team. Game at
2:30 o'clock.

ing for a visit with Mrs. Merrell's

Roy Walker had charge of the
engine room of the steamer Truant
during the Excursion to Newport
on the Fourth.
FAIR COMMITTEE.
There will be a meeting, of the
Fair Committee cn Tuasday evening,
July 9th, in Toledo. C. S. Davis,
president of the Fair Association,
returned from Portland on the 3d.
While in Portland he signed up a
contract with the Arnold Amuse
ment company whereby the com
pany agrees to furnish at the com
ing Fair, a merry go round, three
or four more shows and it is further
agreed to furnish a daily balloon
ascension with parachute jump.

land brought in true bills against
