The annual teachers' institute
held in this city this week was one
of the best ever held in the county.
A report of it will be given next
week.
Word was received late yesterday
announcing the death of Mrs. John
Loomis in California. Mrs. Loom is
was formerly a resident of New
port. We know Toledo is a busy town,
bit it should pause long enough to
I observe Decoration Day. It is not
j to our credit that we should fail to

yeir and decorate the graves of the
i defenders of our nation.
Rev. Preston and family departed,
the first of the week for their home'
at Eugene. Rev. Preston has been
pastor of the local M. E. church
during the past year, but owing to
the illness of Mrs. Preston was
compelled to give up the work.
Their many friends here hope to
learn of the speedy recovery of her
health.
SILETZ-TOLEDO SUNDAY.
That big ball game which was to
hive been played at Toledo last
Sunday, and which was postponed
on account of the rain, will be
pulled off on the Toledo diamond
,'next Sunday afternoon. These
teams are in fine shape and will
make a fine game. See it.
