Lson Rosebrook who is musical director of the Romany Opera! now in the East, in a letter to his father and mother here, says: Colorado Springs, Colo., pril 12. 1912 Dear Folks: In just one hour we leave here for Kansas City and I will use that hour in writing you about my time here. Wednesday we aU got three car riages and went over the "high drive," which i3 a ride of 22 miles over the mountains passing all the places which I sent cards showing the views of. We started from the hotel at 10 a. m. going by way of Zoo Park and up the South Cheyenne Canon to Seven Falls. This is ; namea seven fans lor the reason that the South Cheyenne (which is a stream about the size of Mill creek) drops 600 feet down the mountain in seven terraces, where by the name comes. There is a flight of stairs bui't up along side of the Falls and it is quite a climb up to the top. The climb is well worth the effort, for the view from the top is wonderful. We spent sbout an hour around there, and were very sorry to be obliged to resume our trip. leaving seven rails at 11 a m we drove back down South Chvenne canon to the fork of the creek theniDnant Kock. Ir'sh Washerwoman, , traveled up North Cheyenne canon. !the Milk Maid, the Red Headed i From the branch in the road up toaGirl Punch and Judv. the Needles, ! road house. called Bruin Inn is about i the Knitting Needle. Echo Rock four miles. We got there at about ' anu numerous others which I can . Id. m. and stoDned for lunoh. i Bruin Inn is a restaurant in the mountains, but as we ci rried our lunch we did not stop directly at the Inn but continued past about 200 yards to a place called Bridal Falls. The water here drops about 50 feet over a solid blue granite rock and is of course, a white spray from the fall. Tumbling over this rock the water has the appearance of a white bridal veil over blue satin and the effect is simply indescribable. The weather had been clouding ud since we left the hotel and here we had the novelty of sitting out on the rocks at the foot of the falls and eting lunch in a heavy snow .now in business but will consider storm. It snowed for perhaps 20 live people who will enter busness. minutes, but it was a dry snow and This agency . includes a complete we did not mind it any. It was j Correspondence Sales Course. Lar not cold end altogether it was a ' gest discount ever offered. Deal novel experience. I Leaving Bridal Falls we passed on up the mountain getting higher , and higher all the time until we reached an elevation of 9500 feet. This is at the summit of the moun tains and the road crosses here and goes down the other side. At the summit of the mountain is a cabin occupied by a woman called Captain Jack. She is 70 yean, old and has lived in the moun tains for 35 years. She is quite a character and sang for us, sold usi beer and entertained us in various ! ways. She has traveled all over i the world and is very wealthv, own- ling several fine gold mines in that'.Parts wittiouc leaving a scar, frice, vieinitv. Wb loft hpr nahin of 9.?tn and went down hill to Colorado City, through the smelters and back to our hotel about 5 p. m., thoro ughly tired and well satisfied with our trip. Thursday we started the other way through Colorado City over to Man tou, which is a little resort at the foot of Pikes Peak, and up Wil liams Canon to the celebrated "Cave of the Winds." The ro-d up through Williams Canon is beauti ful. Williams Canon is nothing but a crevice in an immense pile of red granite. At the bottom it is only from 5 to 10 feet wide and at the top it is only about 400 feet across. It is from 2000 to 4000 feet to the top of it. The. road runs up the canon to the end of it and then turns and goes up the side of it. This road is blasted out of the side of the mountain and the outside wheel o2 the carriage runs about a foot from the edge, with a straight drop of from 10 feet as you go higher to 2500 feet, into the bottom. The house where the entrance to the Cave of the Winds is located is built like a bird's nest on the side of the moun tain and to look out of the window is like looking down off a buildini? 2500 feet high. This house is still 2000 feet from the top of the moun tain. We went all through this Cave aid the scenery, the wonderful formations, the peculiar effects of the lights on the walls, is simply beyond words to tell about. ' One must see it for themselves to appre ciate the wondrous beauty of it all. The Cave has three seperate floors connected- by stairways and it took two hours to fully explore it. Leaving . there we went back nT.L " 7 it,"nuuma V Vu ! Garden of the Gods. The rocks in this "Garden" take the most startling resentence to different forms that you ever saw. The. first stop of any consequence was at balanced rock and "steamboat rock." Bal anced uock is a . granite stone weighing about five tons and only has a base on the ground of about 18 inches in diameter. It looks I as though a touch would upset it. Steamboat Rock is about as large j as the celebrated Rosebrook Furni- j lure store in loledo and has 4 powerful telescopes mounted on iit; - I had to slP and 8 down and get n.y train. i am' writing tne rest of this on a Rock Island train going 50 miles an hour toward Kansas City I guess you notice the difference in hand writing. But to continue. Bal anced Rock and Steamboat Rock are on a little hill in the Garden, which adds to the view of the sur rounding country. The panorama of the adjacent country through the telescopes is little short of mar velous. Leaving Steamboat Rock we' passed in rapid succession rocka called The Kissing Camels, Lion! TnrW Rpnr Rnnlr Sool Rnnlr V.n. I not remember. Today we are leaving for Kansas j City and will then go to Sioux City, Omaha, Des Moines, St. Paul, Duluth, Minneapoils, Chicago, New fork, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Boston. From Boston I go back to San Francisco. With love, . Leon. WANTED AGENT. To handle best Automobile built in America.. Exclusive in this county. Built by Old Time Line Manufacturer. Life guarantee.
