Waldport. Dee Kent, Cliff Buker and Erwin Hosford started on a fishing trip to Cummings creek but only got as far as Yachats. We are not allowed to tell why they did not go on. W. T. Crocker has bought a fine piano, which arrived last week. Miss Bell and Miss Murphy spent Sunday at the Yachats. Mrs. E.hel Williams arrived last wcik from California to visit rela tives here. L. telle Hoover has been appoin ted postmaser at Lutjens. At a meeting of the district school board held Monday it was deri led that four teachers would be reouired next year. The Wilhelmina came in Monday i nd left on the same tide for Florence. Mrs. Blanch Palmer of Toledo arrived last Friday for a visit with her mother, Mrs. W. M.Brooks. Mr. Sandell of the Yachats left Monday for a visit at Seattle. He expects to be gone about a week. Henry Simmons is putting in a large amount of potatoes at his Drift creek ranch He has the ground worked up in fine shape. Rev. 0. M. Johnson is purchasing cattle to put on his ranch on Drift creek. This property was bought from Commissioner C. N. Thomp son. Port commissioners nominated last Friday were: William F. Keady, J. W. Walker and John Ludemann. Lewis Colvin was nom inated as Justice of the Peace. Teddy carried the precinct by a vote of 35 to 6. Bourne-won out by 43 to 13. Sixty-two Republican votes were cast. We are glad to see a lot of pro gressive men appointed on the Fair management. Those appointed from the south end are all "live ones." but some of them say they did not know they were to be appointed and will be unable to serve this time. It is hoped the Fair will be the best ever held. The Waldport Band is in good shape these days. The players are as follows: Clarinetes, Fred Over lander, E. R. Buker and Erwin Hos ford: cornets. W.F. Keady, Clifford Buker, Leslie Evens and Chester Stouder; altos, Dee Kent, William Kent and Herman Nelson; tenors, Calvin Stouder and William Helms; baritone, James Berry; basses, Roy McMillinandHalcie G lines; drums. J. H. Olmsted and George Nerton. Most of these members have played with the band continuously for the past four years and are quite pro ficient. Kernville. . Marion Vanderpoel very myster iously disappeared from the home of G. S. Parmele last Friday morn ing. He was given permission to fix his boat. He moved the boat a short distance down the river and pulled it out on the bank opposite the sawmill. When he did not come to dinner a slight search was made, thinking he had gone to seme of the neighbors. ' When night came and he did not come further search was made among ' the neigh bors on the river but to no avail. The donkey whistle is heard of late. Sounds like there may be some lumber sawed later. Mis. Mercier caught a strange looking fish. No one around here knew what it was. The first of the week Jesse Farrin hauled the largest load of milk to the Parmele Pride Siletz Bay Cheese Factory that has been hauled this year. The primary passed off very smoothly. All seemed interested in nominating what they thought was the best man. The schooner Patsy came in the 20th well loaded with provisions. Mr. Dodson now owns the scow that Taylor & Rinz srot last Sum mer which came in on the beach. It is a good one. People wanting to cross the bay with teams can do so now. Married, Sunday, April 21. 1912, at the Rose Lodge postoffice by Justice Sampson, Frank Murray and Miss Annie Resch. Both are well known in tnis part of the county, and are energstic, honest young people. Your humble correspon dent joins in wishing them a pros perous and happy life. Mr. Wallace, the Tillamook cattle buyer, was through here last week picking up everytlhg in cattle and sheep that would do for meat. Our road supervisor is seen traveling over a Dart of the Schoon er creek road quite often. He wants to get that part of the road good so he can drive with a fine new buggy. He now has to go the old fashioned way as our fathers and mothers used to, both on one horse. Parmele & Sons are now milkinor 28 cows, feeding T5 calves. All five of the cheese factories are running full blast and doing well. Who can say that our part of the county is not coming to the front? Ona Dexter Twombly of Toledo is visiting old friends. Dave Coovert of Philomath came in and visited over Sunday with his father, J. A. Coovert, returning home on Monday with his wife and children, Miss Walters accompany ing them. Miss Helga Holmgreen returned to Yaquina on Monday. Crandpa Phelps left Sunday for Yaquina. taking the train for Cor vallis Monday to visit with Mr. Forgey and family of that place. Miss Lillian Jones and Mrs. T. Bedford aceumpanied by Mr. 'Selby of Salem are spending a few days at the Commons home. The for mer leaving for Salem Wednesday, and Mr. Selby remaining for a few days. J. A. Coovert and family spent Sunday at Seal Rocks, also another party including Miss Lillian Jones, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Wolfersperger, Miss Pearl Gates, Miss Gertrude Pehelps, Miss Hilga Holmgreen, Mr. Selby and Lloyd Commons, en joyed the day at the same place. The friends of Lloyd Commons surprised hin. on Saturday, the oc casion being his birthday. A pleas ant evening was enjoyed by ali and before going home a delicious lunch was served by his mother, Mrs. L. M. Commons. John Coovert, A. H. Phelps and Lloyd Commons each made a trip to Yaquina this week. Mr. and Mrs. Hubble and child ren, acompanied by Miss Elizabeth Cook and Francis Gatens of South Beaver, spent Sunday at Seal Rocks. Mrs. S A. Holmgreen is at home again. The injured limb is slowly recovering and she. is able to be about some. Chitwood E. A. Wildman went to Portland last week as a delegate to the Social if t convention. Powell Price went to Albany Monday. He 6ays he is tired of batching and is not coming back until he can bring a cook with him. R. R. Wilson was over in the Si letz country last week photograph ing. H. M. Chitwood of Siletz is visit ing relatives here. J. Q. Adams was down to Toledo one day last week. Mr, Iverson has sold his farm to a Mr. Grimm and is going to Port land Friday. Fine spring showers. Election over and nobody hurt. Mrs. Moss returned from Port land last Wednesday, where she has been visiting friends and relatives since Christmas. W. J. Cline went to Toledo on business last Tuesday. Mrs. Ruffner went to Portland last week to visit her husband, who is woking there. Our road boss, W. F. Wakefield, has quite a large crew clearing the right of way on the new road over the mountain. Roger Loudon returned from Hubbard where he has been attend ing high sohool the past Winter. Mrs. Wm. Wakefield went to Nortons last Thursday to nurse her daughter, Mrs. Hamar, who is very low. The boys of Eddyville and Little Elk met last Sunady and organized a ball team. The boys say with a little practice they will be able to play a good, fast game. They will practice on the Little Elk diamond next Sunday afternoon. Ed Cline went to Portland Wed nesday the 10th, and returnued last Friday, the 19th, with a wife. Ed says a man docs not have to be young to get married. The mohair pool sold here last Monday brought $9,903.95. Cline Bros, had the hrgest check, $1,164.28, although the price paid this year was not so large as last the pool was larger and brought more money. Otis Mr. Morris sold some of his sheep last week to Mr. Wallace of Tillamook. PRIMARY ELECTION RETURNS RETURNS TABULATED BY PRECNCTS. the name is the total vote received Mrs. J. Muir was visiting Mrs. Carrie Parmele several days last week. Miss Nellie Nixon came home on a visit last week. Mr. Wallace is in our parts buy ing cattle and sheep. Mr. Sellsby of Portland who has a place on thejLake is soon to be among us and will build a fine house! While C. S. Parmele was on his way home one night last week he met a large cougar between his place and the Lake. The cougar was not one of the "scarey" kinds, but merely crouched by the road until Clarence had passed. Frank Murry and Miss Anna Resch were married by the Justice of the Peace at Rose Lodge last Sunday, the 21st. Our heartiest congratulations are extended to them. Glen Prof. Drake's school was ended last Thursday. We had a fine enter tainment with a long program, and had a dance at Wm. Davenport's in the evening. J. E. Crook's brother, Jim, re turned from the Valley Tuesday. Mrs. Carl Heath i on the sick list. Ted Daniels as visiting on Drift creek Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Young were over to the dance Friday night. Mr. Crook's little girl fell into Lthe creek, but was quickly rescued by Mrs. Calkins. Mrs. Aplet was visiting friends on Drift creek. Messrs. Moore, Crooks and Calkins and families were fishing on Upper Drift creek Sunday. in this county Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Grant were on Drift creek Friday. J. B. McCrumb visited friends here last Sunday. - Abe Lincoln School. School commenced Monday, April Mrs. W. G. Tinker had the mis fortune to fall and hurt her hip. The accident was quite painful, but at last reports she was improving. Mr. and Mrs. John Olson spent Sunday with Steve Oakland. Ben Olson has gone to Albany. Carl Hagan made a business trip to Waldport Saturday. Joe and Olive Johnson spent Sat urday at Waldport. Mr. Ullman of this vicinity went to Elk City luesday. J. T. Calkins is moving over on Big Elk this week. The mohair seller? are elated over the price of mohair. Ted Daniels is building fence on his ranch this week. Vance Daniel was out to Eddy ville on business today.
