SUPPIJEMENT TO THE LEADER MARCH 1, 1912 KERNVILLE from 1st page. Kernville. Mr. Frazier has bought the J. J. Powers place and will begin work on it soon. He is a Tillamook man and knows the value of this good bottom land. Two Portland real estate men were here looking our county over last week', wanting to buy land. Parmele boys are setting tele-, phone poles from Schooner creek to Siletz. . Mrs. Addie Sparks will start for her home in South Dakota next Monday. She will go by way of Toledo. She says it has been so cold in her state this Winter that everything in the cellars were frozen. She has seen but little ice this Winter as she has been in Port land since October. The schooner Patsy came in over the bar last Tuesday after a load of fish. There were fifteen thous and cases of salmon canned at this cannery last Fall, besides a lot of cold storage fish. The men who are catching steel head salmon and hauling them to Newport from where they are ship ped to Portland, report fair catches. Otis. Bill Samuel is breaking up a large piece of new ground for an oat field. I. L. Nixon bought a fine bunch of cows near Tillamook. He in tends to milk for the cheese factory next Summer. Harry Thorp and father brought in six cows from McMinnviile last week, which will enlarge their herd quite a little. ! , The price of cattle is high in our part of the country. ;. Clarence Parmele and family were visitors at Mr. Muir's Mon day. . v Mr. Isler called on Mr. Thorps' Monday. ";S . Abie Logan and family and sev eral of his friends as witnesses have gone to Portland to attend the trial. :vf . Miss Nellie Nixon and two broth ers made a trip to Taft Monday. Clarence Parmele bojght four tons of hay- of Victor Hill last week. Nelse Gardner went to the Valley last week for a load of goods.. He intends running a well-stocked store near Lilborn Hardin's cheese factory next Summer. Says he will freight his goods in with asix-horsa team. Ona Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Hewett and family spent Sundayat the A. H. Phelps home. . .. . Miss Hester Hill went to Yaquina on horse back Monday, returning the same day. , A. H. Phelps and S. C. Denny went to Yaquina on Wednesday. A party of Ona' young people, chaperoned by Mrs. Levi M.. Com mons, attended the masquerade at Waldport February 22d. They all report a jolly time." John Strake of Bay View was a guest at the Sam Hill home over, Sunday, as were also Mrs. Hattie Edwards and John Coovert. . . L. M. Commons' went to Wald port on Saturday. The friends and neighbors of Mrs. D. W. . Hewett gave, her an apron shower and farewe(l" party Wednesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Hewett expect to movp soon. John Akens had an. accident at the Raddant ranch at Upper Farm. Hoeflein of Yaquina visited in Toledo Wednesday with her brother, J. S. Akin, and family. Surveyor Wygant of Newport was transacting business at the courthouse Wednesday. The new self-feed for the furnaces has arrived ahd will be installed. This will eliminate much work in firing. Otto Nye departed ' Wednesday morning for Eastern Oregon, where he intends remaining this Summer. , Mri'and Mrs. F. II. Phillips re turned' to their home at Medford Wednesday morning, atfer a visit of a couple of weeks among rela tives and friends here.
