Frank Newton of this city is out for the nomination on the Republi can ticket for the office of joint re presentative for this and Pulk counties. Mr. Newton is well qualified for this most important position, being a man of wide ex perience and possessing all other necs?ary qualifications. He has been a resident of Lincoln county for many years. He is a member of the hardware firm of Newton & Nye of this city. Lincoln county has no better man for the position. YOU KNOW THEM. The announements of Assessor W. E. Ball, Sheriff Bert C-eer an Treasurer G. B. McCIuskey appe in this :fsuc'. These men are now holding the position:! thry feck to be nominated and re-elected to fill. They are all so widely known that they need no introduction to the people of this county. Ansejr-or Ball ha3 been our county assessor durine thy past four years, and we believe the people of the county appreciate his honest en deavors to faithfully serve them. He has placed Lincoln county among the foremost in the state in . regard to assessments. Secretary of the State Tax Commission Starr, while speaking before the Echools and colleges of the state says "Lin coln county comes nearer following the law regarding assessments and valuations than any other county in the state." This 13 a pretty good v.-crd fc;- the men responsible Mr. tall. Ehrc-riff Geer has held hh office two years. He i3 a man in whom the people of the county have learned to place implicit confidence. His office during these past two years has been conducted satisfact orily to everybody. . Mr. Geer suc ceded in the office one of the best sheriffs the state has known, and he has not in any instance disappointed the people in the manner of con ducting the office. Sheriff Geer has made a good sheriff and is en titled to the nomination and re-election. Treasurer McCIuskey again asks the Republicans for the nomination. He has held the office of treasurer several years and has so well served the people that we doubt their wanting a change in that office. Mr. McCIuskey has also proven his ability to successfully conduct thii office His books and -records are always in fine shape and his office is always open to the pubilc. The Re publicans will make no mistake by giving the nomination and re election to Treasurer McCulskey. In last week's Signal an "un known" writer, under the disguise of Pro Eono Publico which, by the way, is an elegant nom de plvm: it gfves these fellows with a big yellow streak, who ere endeavoring to hide behind the editor and are ashamed to come out in the open, the opportunity to do so besides pro bono publico is a term that usually fits such a writer about as well as a No. 1 baby shoe would fit Jumbo. Portland, Oregon jumps onto the farmers of Beaver creek, who Ihink they hae a griev ance and are manly enough to fay so over their own signatures. Trie writer does not claim to know all about their contention, but we will bet a cheroot (a cheap lawyer's cigar) that the 'public will gi;e a more sympathetic ear to such men than to a fellow of the stripe of Bro Pony. Our friend may be a very smart man, he may even be a noted legal lightalthough hi3 article does not indicate tu:h. He rants about the "primitive, back woods ignorance" of these Eeaver creek men. Where does Poor Boni get his backwoods ignorance? We believe the pages of history are full of the names of men and women from the so-called backwoods; in fact the brainiest men of thi3 or any other nation have been born in the "backwoods" as Pro Benny is i pleased to term our farmers. We would rather risk the intelligene of the average farmer, or "backwoods men than such as our friend Pub $33.00 32.00 25.00 25.00 25.00 Bunlco. Mrs. Cicilia Beck, who w'ent to Idaho last Fall, intending to make her home in that state, returned to Lincoln county ,nd expects to spend the Summer here with her daugh ter, Mrs. E. E. Rowe.
