County Clerk K. H. Howell again
as"s the Republican voters for the
nomination for County Clerk at
the coming primary nominating
election. Mr. Howell is just com
'pleting his first term as Lincoln
county's Clerk. He bas given the
cot n y most excellent service.
During his'term he has been most
earnest in the performance of his
duties, has always leen courteous
and obliging, and at the same time
has conducted the office in a
thorough business manner. During
tha past two years, since assuming
charge of this most impurtant office,
the people have been satisfied know
ing that the office has been in
chagj o: a. man who is thoroughly
competent. Mr. Howell is worthy
of the endorsement of the Repub
lican votri-3 at the primary on April
19th.
The annuncement of William F.
Wakefield of Eddyville appears in
this issue. Mr.. Wakefield asks the
Republican voters for the nomina
tion of County Commissioner at
the coming nominating election on
April 10th. We know of no mm
in the county more fitteJ fcr the
position of Commissioner than Mr.
Wakefield. He is a young man, is
earnest, henest, progressive, and
has made a success of his own busi
ness that of farming. He has
been a resident of Lincoln county
since ear'y boyhood, and has always
been interested in and has taken an
active part in all affairs of the
county and of his community. He
is well acquainted with every sec
tion of the county and knows the
needs and requirements of each lo
cality. He is at present road super
visor of his road district and is
also a member of the county board
of education. The voters could
not find a more worthy nor better
qualified man for this important
office than W. F. Wakefield.
Setting aside February 22 as
Colonist Day for 1912 Governor
West, in his proclamation, calls
special attention to the sort of
colonists Oregon needs. He urges
people of the state to write back
East to their friens and invite those
who will help clean up the thous
and) cf acres if timber and sage
brush land and assist in making of
it the agricultural state it should
be. The Governor ays the state
does r.ot need city men subsisting
on a daily wage, except as he may
follcw the institution of the fac
tory, the workshop or the business
house. The need of the state is ac
tive nun with artive money rnd
efficient effort. The colonist period
thii year is from March 1 to April
15. The success of the colonist
day last year wes most unexpected.
Nearly every commercial organiza
tion jn the state participated in this
most unique advertising campaign
and set aside its own special day for
observing it. The total number of
pieces of mail that went East be
cause cf the special efforts made
ran up into the millions. The
school children and many social or
ganizations volunteered their ser
vices in writing letters and mailing
literature. The result was probably
the biggest short-time advertising
