C. J. Mahoney and wife of New port were Waldport visitors this week. Attorney Percy C. Stroud of St. Johns was with us last week looking up some business for the Eilers Piano House of Poriland. The Wilhelminia left Tuesday for Portland. Among other things she carried fourteen tons of cascara bark. F. C. Walters and party left Tues day for Ehnira after spending two weeks fishing on Alsea Bay. The Barnes cannery has packed about five-thousand cases of salmon this season. A big run of salmon is now in the bay. Some boat3 report as high as seven hundred silver salmon caught in one night. The camp was closed last Thursday and by Saturday all of the men had gone. Mr. Emstrum remained to put things in order and store tho tools for opening time next March. Mr. Reisinjrer and family and Mr. and Mrs. A. Walter went over to Newport Sunday. Mr. Reisinger went on business and the others went for pleasure. A gloom was cast over us last week by the death of Mrs. Lett on Friday morning. Mrs. Lett w'a3 il only a week or ten days, with bronchial pneumonia. Survivine her are two sons and a married daughter, Mrs. Parks, here, and two other daughters living in Hood River. Mrs. Lett had only came here recently, intending to keep house for her elder son, who waa employed in the camp, but she was Urickcn ill almost as soon as she arrived. Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Leach and son Melvin, bft for their home in Oregon City last Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Leach have been cook ing here since last May. Miss Hester Hill was a guest of Mrs. Emstrum Sunday. Charley Hyde came up from To ledo Monday morning. D. D. Warnock and Tamily of Dayton have been visiting relatives here the past week. S. L. Hanson, tho chicken man, has just completed an up-to-date chicken house. Tho Eddyville school is again closed, owing to the sickness of the teacher, Miss Anna Baird. W. C. Reynolds and family de parted for Chehalis. Washington, last week, where they will spend the Winter. There has been a number of strangers settled on homesteads in the vicinity of Eddyville during tho past few weeks. W. F. Wakefield is wearing a happy smile at present, being tho proud father of a ten pound baby boy, who arrived the 17th inst. (Continued cn F"2? 4) ; )
