There is a fair run of salmon in .Alsea Bay now. The Elmore seine will operate until the Eeventh of this month. E. 0. Beckley of Salem was a Waldport visiter this week. J. W. Barnes left Wednesday for Bsaverton, where he may remain for some time. Tout fishing is fine in Drift creek and the Upper Alsea. H. H. Saxton, the barber, has .sold out his stock of goods and hereafter will look after the barber trade exclusively. A sidewalk has been built part . way tu the high school and arrange ments are being made to complete the work. Heretofore such work has been done by popular subscrip tion, but now that the town is in corporated it is expected the coun cil will assist. Walter Hosford and family have returned from the Valley, where they took in the sights at the State Fair. Mr. Hosford' recently sold his place at tne Yachats. Bay View. Mr. and Mrs. John Olson returned home from Michigan where they spent the Winter and Summer. 'They were accompanied by a nephew of Mr. Olson. George Prescott has bought the Kirkland farm and will scon move -on. Mrs. Walter Kent was a visitor in Bay View last week. Mr. and Mrs. Martinson of Tide , water were visiting friends the first cf the week. Mrs. 0. W. Peterson spent Sun day with her mother, Mrs. J. C. Barnes. Mrs. M. E. McWillis is visiting her daughter on Beaver Creek. Tom Cams drove a band of cattle from this place this week. Herb Twombly and daughter have gone to Seattle to his sister's. Oscar Oakland and Fred McWillis are enjoying a trip up Drift creek this week. Montgomery's Camp Miss Hester Hill returned Satur day from a visit to Portland and Winlock, Washington, and now is prepared to begin the arduous task -of teaching the young idea how to Bhoot. Miss Hill spent Sunday with Mrs. M. Emstrum at Montgomery's Camp. Work is progressing nicely at Montgomery's camp, and they hope to keep running for two or three months before the rains interfere. Joe Welter was busy Sunday re pairing his "rag house" to receive his wife and daughter, whom he expects home soon. The Literary Society of the Stan ton school is preparing a program for an entertainment in the near future. Prof. Ogden u in charge cf our school this Fall, and has thinbs in very good running order, with about twenty pupils enrolled Eddyville. S. T. Loudon was a passenger for Corvallis Tuesday. E. F. Vader made a business trip to Corvallis Tuesday, returning the tame day. Brown Wakefield passed through Eddyville, as usual, last Sunday morning. Miss Hattie Bruce of Newport i commenced the Eddvville school Monday, with twenty pupils en rolled.- The Wakefield school commenced Monday, with Miss Gertrude Baird weilding the birch. M. S. Free man, in this city. Arthur Crawford of Siletz went to Portland the first of the week, as a witness in the proving up of Edward Sheffield.. Messrs. Jacobson and Richardson, engineers and contractors for the new water system were in Toledo this week inspecting same. The walk leading to the cemetery is in bad repair and should be fixed at once. Foreman Jenson of the water system has the ditch for the pipe liae well within the city limits, and expects to have the pipe laid within a week or ten days, unless there is some delay in the delivery of same. As soon a3 he reaches town with the pipe line it will be connected with our present water system, pend ing the completion of the reservoir. The pipe is now laid across both the Yaquina and Olalla rivers. Pipe has been ordered for a new water main to be laid on Hill street from Fifth to Seventh streets The main will be a four inch wood j main and a fire hydrant will be placed at its .terminal on Seventh I street. The large number of new j buildings being erected in this por i tion of town caused the necessity of this pipe being lain. Lon Dundon of Toledo, accom panied by his brother, W. Dundon, who lives over on the Santiam, spent Sunday at the beach. It was some thirty years since William last visited the Newport beach and he was very much surprised to find such a thrifty little city. Newport News. G. M. Walker and crew of men arrived down from Portland this week; and have commenced work on tne snip which has been lying on the ways ofthe Toledo Shipyard for the pest year. We understand the work will be rushed to completon. Mr. and ' Mrs. John Olson of Bay View returned home last Friday evening from the state of Michigan, where they have been visiting for the past nine months. They ex press themselves as glad to be back in Lincoln county. The Government has ordered a survey of the bay between Toledo and Yaquina. This work will be in line with the work being done by the Port Commission. Al Waugh has begun the con struction of a residence 'n Graham street, just south of W. C. Cope land's residence. Thompson Bros, are the contractors. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Heath and Mr. and Mrs Frank Heath departed Wednesday morning for the state of Washington, where they will make their homes. Mrs. C. G. Copeland passed through last Friday morning en route to Eureka, California, where she will visit her daughter, Sada, and family. " Wm.
