The immense possibilities of the luture of Lincoln county is almost beyond comprehension. In this county is the finest body of virgin timber in the United States. There are many quarter sections of land on which there are from ten to eighteen million feet of timber un equaled in any country. The cli mate is salubrious, the soil is fertile and the crops that can Jbe raised are varied and the yield is enormous. There are over one hundred thou sand acres of land in this county subject to the homestead laws, any tract thereof being the basis for an 71 1 71 1 THE BEST 5c. Some of the best farms in the county have been made on oriignal homestead entries. Peo ple from the middle west can find homes here th. like of which can not be obtained elsewhere and they will find a cordial welcome from the present inhabitants. With the completion of the Toledo & Siletz railroad the land values will quadruple; the facilities there by acquired will give a market for this enormous timber supply and sawmills will no doubt be located in many places along said railroad ; small crops will find a ready home market as well as rapid transit to the people of California and other points. The vessels to be operated between Yaquina Bay and ocean ports south will put this section in constant and frequent business communication with San Francisco, where there is an immense demand for lumber. The coal fields and rock quarries in this county will then be developed and seek their southern outlets and incoming freights will be handled at ocean rates which means that the country tributary to Yaquina Bay will awake from its lethergy and blossom like a rose. ' San Francisco is the natural ally of the Yaquina Bay district and soon they will be bound together by the laws of mutual interests and business affiliations. Ben Jones, . Register of the United States land office at Rose burg, and family came up from Otter Rock where they have been spending their vacation at their cot tgae in that beautiful resort. They returned to their home at Roseburg yesterday. Mr. Jones who has al ways been interested in this, his home county, is very enthusiastic over the prospects of the future de velopments of the county. This office is again in receipt of an unsigned communication. We do not know who the writer is hence refuse to publish it. Why the author refuses to divulge his name we cannot understand for his article tells nothing but the truth. We, as everybody else, must admit that our principal street resembles a garbage dump. Is it any wonder that strangers tell us that we have the most ill kept, dirtiest town in the country. Its our own fault; we lack civic pride in that respect. Let's remove our wood yards, scrap heaps, barn yard scenes, etc., to less conspiciouss places. And to corres pondents, for goodness sakes do not write articles for newspapers with out letting the editors know who you are, for it is a waste of time. The name is not wanted for publi cation but the identity of the writer must be known by the publishers. NOTICE OF STATUTORY TAX SALE. .
