Company Proposes Building Railroad from Toledo to J Falh City via Siletz A meeting was held Tuesday after noon in the law office of J. F. Stew art for the purpose of looking into the matter of building a railroad from Toledo into the rich Siletz dis trict, and from there on to Falls City. Wm. H. Garland, of Portland and New York City, was present and outlined a plan for the construction of this road. He asked that some of our local people form a company and incorporate as the Toledo, Siletz Railroad & Navigation Company. Then that said corporation, com posed of our own citizens, secure the necessary right of way from To ledo to Falls City, with necessary terminal facilities, and that when this was done he would sell the bonds of the road, build and equip said road, or in lieu of the sale of said bonds he would build the road and take the bonds as payment for the work and equipment. , Mr. Garland drew up the neces sary contracts and last night another meeting was held and these contracts examied and accepted The contract asks, first; for a right of way from Toledo to Siletz with ample grounds for depots, roundhouses, switches and waterfront for wharfage at To ledo. Later, for right of way, ter minals, etc., from Siletz to Falls City. Mr. Garland contracts to be gin construction on the road within sixty days from the time the neces sary right of way and terminals between here and Siletz are secured, and to have same completed and in operation within one year, and to have the entire road between To ledo and Falls City in operation within eighteen months. It is the policy of the company to own three or four oil schooners to operate in conjunction with the raillroad.
