Mrs. Eudora Barclay, of Tide water, lias received her commission as postmistress at that place and the office will again be in operation as soon as the proper supplies arrive. W. K. Merrill of the Lincoln County Telegraph and Telephone Co. spent several days in Waldport last week and has announced that he is well pleased with the outlook in this end of the county and prom ises uew lines as soon as justified. Ed Stocker of Newport has been buying beef stock in this vicinity. He started for Newport Monday with six head which had been bought on the Yachat a. When on the sand spit on the north side of the bay they decided to return home and swam the channel near Yaquina John Point. They were brought up from the Yachats again Tuesday. The residents of Drift Creek are planning the construction of a phone line to the Linville post office and have arranged with W. K. Merrill to connect with his lines. Mr. Larson's baby has been quite sick but is some better now. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond and Anion Bones, Jr., took Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Stone. The mail sack has been found and the mail not much damaged, but no trace of the mailcarrier can be found. Charlie Larson is getting out shakes preparatory to building a house and barn . Lenard Johnson and Mr. Petitt of Upper Siletz were doing trading at the mouth of the river, and visit ing J. M. Stone. , Luman Butterfield visited at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Stone, last week. v Our school has been closed two weeks as Mr. Nixon has been out taking teachers' examination. The railroad fencing gang has passed Eddyville going west. They are completing about one-half mile a day. W. F. Wakefield had a tussel wiiu 111s jersey uuii one ua moi week, from which he is badly bruised and somewhat crippled. He was leading the animal when attacked and knocked down, falling on his back. He seized the ring in the brute's nose with one hand and a horn with the other, thus prevent ing the animal from goring him. After a scuffle of several minutes in which the bull carried Hilly some 15 feet or more, he succeeded in getting on his feet and tying the brute. It was a close call for Billy, as he is in luck to escape as well as he did. Mr. Rogers of Portland was in Eddyville Friday representing the Likfresh Evaporator company of that city. He gave a lecture on their method of preserving fruits, vegetables, meats and fish, and showed samples that had been treat ed by their system of evaporation, with the result that the people of Eddyville formed a company and will install an evaporator of three tons capacity in time to handle small fruits. The company will incorpo rate under the State laws. The di rectors elected are, C. C. McBride, S. T. Loudon and N. T. Hibben. Married At the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. The lumber for the schoolhouse did not get through last week as ex pected, owing to the small tides. It came part way, however, and the last of this week will be on the ground. School will open the last of March and it will keep the school Ixiard hustling to prepare for it. But they are hustlers, however, and things will be in good shape for the youngsters when the time comes. Word has been received from Mr. Titus, who is now at National City, ; California, that he will move on his Drift Creek ranch this Spring. Frank Huntsucker took advantage of the nice weather Sundav and hauled several loads of hav from Bay View. Mr. Dougherty has ordered the gates removed from the county road on Drift creek. Mr. Dougherty was acting under orders from the Com missioners' Court and those who are involved are making an effort to have the order stayed. Have not heard whether they were successful or not. Oscar Oakland and Fred McWillis were visiting friends on Drift Creek last Sunday. Mrs. G. E. Baumann arrived down from her home in Portland last Tuesday evening for a visit among her many friends here. Miss Verne Ross returned Tues day evening from Salem, having served as clerk for Representative Chambers during the last term of Legislature. The Ladies Aid Society will meet with Mrs. C. P.
