Harlan Mr. Editor you don't want to think, because you haven't heard from I Iailan for some time, that there is nothing doing, for there is every minute. People have been very busy since the good, Aveather came with their farming. They are all about through with their grain but no gardening done yet. The stock is about all turned on the range and is doing fine. Goat shearing is in full blast and some are about through. The goats are stepping hign as the price of mo hair runs up, One of W. W. January's little boys was turning a feed chopper and got his hand caught in the cogs and lacerated it so badly they had to take him to Philomath ton doctor to have it properly dressed. Just a short time after they got hack home another one of tho boys got his arm broke. They are both get ting along nicely now. Mr. Davison is still lingering along and seems to bo gaini.ig a little. Shn was accompanied by a cousin , and an uncle. Otto Tan german is spending a few days with his family at Siletz. elk Ijot us talk a little on the dairy question as that is what we must do in this coast country. It will pay bettor than any thing we can do ami the first thing to do is to get some thing for your cows to cat, by gel ing some good grass started, and next get good cows. The out range will do a while in the Spring but it won't keep your cows up through the milking season. Two acres of kale will feetl five or ten cows all fall and keep up tho flow of milk and make it much richer and as we have said before good feetl and good cows is what pays. Holsteins seem so pay tho .-.est, hut of course we can't all start with full bloods. But we can pick out our best cows and 'breed them up, kill off our scrub calves a..d rai:t good ones. There aro thousands of fine-bred calves killed in Tillamook County every Spring. You can get a wagon load of tlnjm for ono dollar a head. Anyone with a few scrub cows can have a fine herd of cows in from two to three years by feed ing tho culves a little milk in which is put n little oil meal and shorts, which will niiike them grow fat. There is no excuse for raising scrub cows now if you will go to a littlo Ixither at the right time. If you want fine calves you can get half breed holsteins of Johe Foster, Fox Bros., L. Croven, Dave or R. Dunn or J. Hellenbrand, at Oretown and Meda, but all over Tillamook coun ty good calves can bo gotten for the price above mentioned.' I don't want to lead thc rentiers to think I urn trying to sell calves for the Tillamook dairymen,' but it is t bad to huve good caljes kille.d when we need them nnd can get tl'iem bv ' going after them nml'i'inyiiijg'for tl o hides on their backs. By going ami (Continued on page -1) '
