School Superiitendent Replies Editor of tlie Lincoln County Leader : I wish to call the atten tion of the puhlic to a communica tion from Waldport, which was A Talk to Farmers. Editor Leader; I ask space for a few words with the farmers of Lincoln county. In past years you raised thousands of bushels of pota- published in your last issue, under ' toes and made money as you had cheap transportation. We have the climate and an unlimited the heading of (Vacancy on School Boards" In this article the author gravely announces that there is a vacancy in the Waldport school Ixiard. This announcement may lead tho public to Iwlieve that I am neglecting my business as Superin tendent. I now wish to state that I have received no official notice of such vacancy, in Waldport or any other district. Hut on the contrary I have received, a letter from the wife of the director, in question, which informs me that the family is living at their home in Waldport, and that the husband is away fiom home on business, and that it is his intention to return soon, and that he desires to retain his office as trustee Now what would the good people of Waldport have me to do? I will venture to advise the Waldport school board to follow the law, as well as all other boards, this it is to be supposed, they are doing. llulu ia Lhu l.ivk' in liquid to l- cancies. The county school super intendent shall declare the office of a clerk or director vacant upon the happening of any of the following causes: 1. The death or resignation of the incumbent. 2. When an incumbent shall he removed from office or his election thereto shall have been declared void by the judgement or decree of any competent court. 3. When an incumbent shall cease to be a resident of the district. 4. When an incumbent shall cease to discharge the dutiiB of his office for two consecutive months, unless ho shall have been prevented from discharging such duties by sickness or other unavoidable cause. There has been a few resignations since the last annual election. They were written in a formal man ner, and I declared the office vacant I received a written Fishing Tackle amount of tho lcst lands in the world for producing apples, potatoes, cabbage celery and all other pro ducts that the markets of the world desire. Our difficulty lias been in reaching these markets with any profit to ourselves, as we are com pelled to ship by rail a long distance over heavy grade before we have reached thb rich Willamette ' valley and could not compete. But now a happy change has come over us! with an assured fact of using the waters of Lincoln county through tho o rganization of the "Lincoln County Transportation Company'' with Iewis Montgomery president, and Win, Scarth secretary and treasurer, whom you know, both be ing men who have made a succors of their own business. George Tyler will be master of the new fine boat that the company has purchas ed to serve iw. he i nlur a dirct"T in the company and will ably serve our interests. The live citizens of Newport, Toledo, Waldport and Siuslaw have shown their faith by taking stock in the company and to cap tho climax Portland with her usual push (contrary to tho wail of the croaker) has shown her faith in Lincoln county by taking stock and put'.ing up her good money. Three of her oldest and most reliable w holesale houses have taken $500 of the stock each to-wit; Allen & Lew is, Wadhanis. Co. and Fleschnir Mayer it Co., thus insuring good treatment of our people.
