Last Friday C. & E. Train No.
16 was wrecked about one mile
above Pioneer at 1 p. m. The
wreck occurred at bridge 23 and
was caused by a loose wheel on the
hind truck of the forward car. The
wheel dropped clown on the inside
of the rail causing the truck to turn
croBsways and drop between the
ties of the bridge, stopping the train
almost instantly and causing two
freight cars loaded with wood t fall
about thirty feet into the gulch
smashing them into kindlingwood.
Had the train been going at its us
ual speed several more cars would
have meet the same fate, but owing
to just having come out of the tun
nel the train was going at a very
6low speed. Only one set of trucks
went off the bridge, the five remain
ing trucks being all twisted and
smashed under the third car. Had
