One by one we all are losing
Links from out this broken chain,
But we cannot do the choosing
Of the ones who leave this plane.
One by one are fond hopes blighted,
And we lose all joy in life,
But in heaven we'll be united
When we leave this weary strife.
A Friend.

To Correct a False Impression.
The impression seems to stick in
the narrow craniums of certain per
sons in this community that under
signed advocated local option, in
fluenced voters in its favor, etc., in
order to obtain a complete monopo
ly of the liquor business of this
place. Furthermore I am accused
of showing inconsistai.cy and play
ing the hypocrite in my attitude as
a man of temperate habits and dis
penser of medicines liable to intoxi
cate. As to the first accusation, I will
nail it as a lie by challenging any
one to prove I ever publicly or pri
vately advocated local option or
prohibition for the purpose of in
fluencing anyliody's vote. Anybody
who knows mo knows that my po
litical beliefs favor neither local op
tion nor prohibition. I don't hide
my political light under a bushel.
I lived 4 years in a prohibition
state. I am well acquainted with
the conditions before and after. I
have frequently leen asked how the
law operates and is taken by the in
habitants, replying by simply pre
senting facts that anyone may veri
fy. It is no more inconsistant or
hypocritical for me to deal in intoxi
cants than for Mr. Stewart or Mr.
Lewis to deal in tobacco in unre
stricted quant ies. Neither of .these
men make personal use. of it nor do
they permit its use by any member
of their family.
.'Essence of Lemon, Essence of
Vanilla and Jamica Ginger contain
anywhere from 30 to 50 per cent of
alcohol, an amount equal to the
strongest whiskey, yet offered for
sale by every grocery man in town.
There is more poison in a dollars'
worth of tobacco than there is in
a dollars' worth of whiskey.
Why do these men then sell to
bacco? . For the very same reason
that I sell any goods in my line
the profit there is in it. Knock the
profit out of the whiskey . business
and you have killed it effectively
for all time.
Being myself a consistant temper
ate man in everything, my public
and private attitude towards the
use or abuse of these things cannot.
1k otherwise than as stated.
My training as a druggist natur
ally leads mo to place spirituous
liquors in the category of remedial
agents medicines which in my
opinion is the proper classification,
and would like to have the public
so consider them.
As you all know, I am not given
to" finding fault, I simply desire to
correct a false impression.
Respectfully,
Kkoostad, the Druggist.
