Hurley Lutz went to Portland on
the noon train Tuesday. He ex
pects to be gone about ten days.
J. Flemming Wilson of the New
port Mail passed through to Port
land Wednesday morning on busi
ness. Miss Estella Gannon departed
Sunday evening on the excursion
for Portland where she will visit
for a month .
Miss Bessie Hufford who has
been visiting friends and relatives
here the past several weeks returned
to her home at Portland.
Misses Ethel and Verne Ross
after spending a week at home re
turned Saturday to their home
steads on the Lower Siletz.
Misses Rebecca and Viola Crooks,
who have been visiting their broth
er, John E. Crooks, and family
near Toledo, returned this morning
to their home at Albany.
Railroad Commissioner Oswald
West walked over the road from
Corvallis to Chitwood inspecting
the condition of the track. He
found that the road is in good con
dition. He returned to Albany
Monday.
Manager F. R. Stokes of the Fir
and Spruce Company accompanied
by W. E. Ring and others interes
ted in the same company, arrived
Tuesday evening. The gentlemen
are pretty busy with the affairs of
the Company, but as yet no defin
ate arrangements have been made
as to starting the mill.
Elk City and Siletz baseball teams
played another game on the Toledo
grounds Sunday. It was the only
real bum game of the season be
tween these teams. At the close of
the game the score stood Elk City,
13; Siletz, 12. The day was chilly
and a wet ball was the cause of the
high score. Next Sunday Toledo
will tackle Siletz.
Waldport Items.
The usual number of summer
campers are beginning to arrive.
Forest Ranger Durbin lost a valu
able horse by accident this week.
Wm. H. Buker is spending a
week on Ten Mile creek as the guest
of Ira Bray. .
Chas. S. Fisher and F. A. Lorning,
of the engineering department of
the O. R. & N. Co. spent a few days
in. Waldport this week.
A building is being erected by
the Waldport Lumljer Company for
the purpose of housing their new
box factory. It is to be hoped this
part of the machinery will be able
to run steadily as the rest of the
plant is idle most of the time.
S. Elmore and Co., through their
representative, F. G. Stillwell, have
notified the fishermen of Alsea Bay
that the price to be paid for salmon
this season is 124 cents for silver
salmon and 35 cents for chinook.
The fishermen have notified. Mr.
Stillwell at what price they will
deliver fish. This is in keeping
with the usual method of the can
nery here. Last season over two
weeks of the best part of the chi
nook run was lost to settle a similar
dispute and Elmore & Co. finally
had to come to the terms of the
fishermen, but the time consumed
resulted in a loss of several thous
and dollars to the fishermen.

J. P. Bones our Road Supervisor
has been busy getting men to fix
the grade over the hill at the mouth
of the Siletz Bay.
Mr. ana .Mrs. Jess stone made a
flying trip to the county scat.
Mrs. Wm. Scott and children
have gone to Salem on a visit to
her mother's.
Mrs. C. S. Tarmele spent the
last week visiting on Salmon River
Buno Knolinski .and family left
Sunday for their new home near
Corvallis. They will be missed
here but others will soon come to
take their places.
Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Bones have
moved on their claim on Drift

River.
G. S. Parmele went to Toledo
the first of the week.
Misses ilitnel and Verne Koss re
turned to their homesteads on the
11th after spending a week at
Toledo.
Meadow Creek.
Quite a number from this neigh
borhood attended the dance at Mr.
Grant's, on Big Elk, Friday night.
All reported a good time.
While breaking a colt the other
day N. Watkins had the misfor
tune to break one of his fingers.
Mr. and Mrs. J Daniel visited

J. T. Calkins.
The road Supervisor, Mr. Sharp,
