Mr. James Bales has a contract
with the Government to build a
barge to be used in connection with
the forest reserve service here. A
number of roads and trails will be
built through the reserve this sum
mer and will cost the Gouernment
about $4000 which amount will
benefit the people of Waldport more j
than any others.
Livestock has a peculiar habit of
disappearing in this vicinity and
some of those who have missed
animals have called upon Sheriff
Iloss to locate the miscreants if pos
sible. Mr. Ross spent several days
with us last week but we are not
informed as to the results of his in
vestigation. Crab outfits are plentiful on the
Bay this season. There are more
boats out than there has been for
several years and all are doing nice
ly thus for. Several fishermen
from other points have investigated
conditions here with a view of locat
ing on the Bay this fall.
A mass meeting was held in

the purpose of discussing the Fourth !
of July celebration. Committees
were appointed and a general plan
formulated. Funds will b raised
by subscription and also by a voting
contest to determine the most popu
lar young lady. A baseball match
will be arranged and in order to get
their hands in the Waldport team
went to Tidewater Sunday and suc
ceeded in getting skinned by a score
of 30 to 17.
The Waldport Marine Band had
a jollification at their regular, re
hearsal Friday evening. The cause
of all this was a little remittance of
$18.5 which was sent off that day to
Graves & Co. of Portland, as the
final payment on the band instru
ments purchased last Fall.- The
boys here have a record that is hard
to beat when it comes to the finan
cial part of the undertaking.
