Alfred Leask came over from
Corvallis Wednesday evening return
ing Thursday morning. Alfred
leaves the 2nd of June for his old
home in Scotland.
Fred Chambers went to Salado
Saturday morning, where he will
get busy in a chittim patch. He
will peel during the summer on
J. S. Copeland's place.
Mrs. Lottie Rosebrook returned
to her home at Portland Saturday
morning, after a two week's visit
with her parents here. She was
accompanied home by her little
sister, Helen Krogstad.
Andersen Bros, have taken their
launch out of the water and will in
stall a ten horse power engine in
her, and repaint the hull. They
expect to have her in commission
again in about ten days. The boat
will run on the lower bay and do a
general towing and passenger busi
ness. She has capacity of from
thirty to forty passengers.
Honoring Oar Soldier Dead.
The exercises for Decoration Day
will be held at the cemetery tomor
row at 2 o'clock p. m. Members
of Abe Lincoln Post and all Veter
ans, members of Woman's Relief
Corps and decorators will meet at
the cemetery at that hour. The

Mrs. G. M. McBride went to
Oregon City Wednesday morning
for a short visit. Her daughter
Miss Mildred who has been attend
ing school there, will return with
her.
Toledo's brass band is having
reaular band practice in the City
Hall, under the leadership of Aus
tin Rosebrook. The boys are tak
ing hold in good shape and we are
assured of a good band here this
summer.
E. L. King of Revelstokes, B. C,
visited last week with his uncle,
Henry Gannon, and family. Mr.
King expected to sec the fleet while
here, but failing to do so will wit
ness it at Seattle. He departed
Monday morning.
On complaint of Superintendent
K. C. Egbert of Siletz, J. Burkel
was arrested Tuesday for selling
whiskey to three little Indian boys.
Wednesday he was arraigned before
Justice Allen of Elk City when he
plead guilty to both the charge of
violating the local option law and
selling liquor to minors. He was
fined S50 arid costs in each case,
which he paid.
Last Friday night County Clerk
Ira Wade completed the taking of
testimony in the case of the United
States vs. Lawrence Syjana, it be
ing the last one of the Government
contest cases. For three weeks Mr.
Wade has been compelled to devote
his whole time to the hearing of
these cases, there being twelve of
them in all, and ho has therefore
been compelled to, remain in his
office and refrain from making a
canvass in the interest of his can
didacy for re-election.

Mrs. G. R. Schenck returned Fri
day evening from Salem where she
attended the Grand Lodge of Re
bekahs. The thirty-sixth annual reunion
of the Oregon Pioneer, association
will 1)0 held at Portland Thursday,
June 11. .
Mrs. Elmer Ellsworth returned
to her home' at Albany Monday
morning after a short visit with the
folks at home.
Mrs. Mongers went to Elk City
Friday morning for a visit. She
was accompanied by little Christina
and Edna Carlson.
The basement to C. E. ITawkin's
new residence in the southeast end
of town has leen completed, a well
dug and material is being hauled
for the foundation.

Johnny Williams and Hoxie Sim
mons came over from Siletz Friday
morning. Johnny returned to The
Dalles the following morning where
he will spend the summer.
The total registration in this
county this year was 1173 as against
1057 in 1906. County Clerk Ira
Wade estimates there is at least 100
voters who did not register this
year.
County School Superentendent
George Bethers, Joel W. Wilson,
J. M. Woods, Misses Alice Fleming
and Edith Harrison of Toledo at
tended the teachers' meeting at
Chitwood last Saturday.
Contractors , Hoeilein and Mc
Caulou completed the bridge across
the gulch at James Patterson's place
on the cemetery sidewalk last Fri
day. This makes the walk con
tinuous from town to the cemetery.
County School Superintendent
George Bethers will hold the regular
annual county teachers' institute in
Toledo, commencing Wednesday,
June 17. This will be one of the
most instructive and entertaining
institutes ever held in Lincoln
county.
G. L. Gray of Newport was a
county seat visitor Tuesday. Mr.
and Mrs. Gray and little daughter,
Florence, will visit the Eastern
States and Canada, starting the
first of June. They wilbe in the
cast until October and possibly the
first of the year.
