The How of It.
Last Friday the people of Oregon
again had, the right to Bay who
should be their candidates for the
coming June election, and they
said. Now if yodr candidate failed
to get the nomination don't be
cranky. Stand pat, and vote for
the man the people nominated.
The tabulated form in the next
column will tell how it happened
in Lincoln county. All the State
officers nominated in this county
did not carry the state. Fulton
carried this county but lost by
about 6000 in the state. Hammer
ly for Joint Senotor carried Lincoln,
Yamhill and Tillamook counties
but lost it all on Washington's vote.
Barrett received Ihe nomination.
Jones and Gardner were close in
this county but Jones skinned him
bad in Polk. Matthew N. Ander-'
son, commonly called "Norm,"
was nominated Justice of the Peace
for this precinct, G. L. McCaulou
was nominated for constable, and
Henry Howell received the nomi
nation for County Central Com
mitteeman for this precinct. The
Republicans had no candidate for
Surveyor so they gave the vote to
Jim Derrick, a democrat, and the
present County Surveyor.
The Democratic nominees are:
U. S. Senator, George. E. Cham
berlain; Congressman, J. J. Whit
ney; Sheriff, Chesley L. Morrison;
Clerk, endorsed, Ira Wade; Treas
urer, endorsed, McCluskey; Com
missioner, endorsed, Keady; Sur
veyor, Z; M. Derrick; Assessor, en
dorsed, Guy F. Laws; Coroner, en
dorsed, Carter; Constable, Toledo
precinct, Dave Ross; Justice of the
Peace, Lee Bartholomew.

man and Frank L. Buker was duly

Nashville was elected Treasurer.

Buker and F A. Godwin were elec
ted delegates to attend both the

Through the Leader I wish to
thank the people of Lincoln county
for the splendid endorsement they
gave me at the primary. The con
fidence of themselves and others
gave the writer a plurality in three
of the four counties against a very
strong and capable man, who had
been in the field longer and had
spent a lifetime here.
Cheerfully yours in defeat,
C. C. Hammerly.

Development League.
The regular meeting of the Toledo
Development IiCague will Ihj held at
City Hall next Saturday evening,
April 2"th, at 8 o'clock. Business
of great importance to Toledo and
j Lincoln county will come before the
meeting. Every friend of the town
is urgently requested to lie present
and pull for our home. Hope to
see every business man present;
also knockers arc kindly invite;!.
Come, it may not be so bad as you
imagine. All come, and get together
and work for the f common good of
Toledo. Why not? No business
man who will lie directly liciicritted
by the prosperity of our town can
afford to absent himself, and have
his name advertised further to the
world in capital letters that he is a
quitter and a Btay-ut-home, when
his town needs his influence. Come
out and get acquainted .with the
Three or Four ugly men. I am
sure they arc not so bad as pictured.
If so, we will vote them down. So
come along and show you are not
afraid. All invited. . '
